  • Yeah I saw that, was just being tight and wondered if anyone had one second hand (pardon the pun) that would have saved me a bit of ££

  • Don't be tight, they cost the same amount new as you'll pay to get it serviced... False economy, totally disposable, but awesome, 'timepiece'..

  • they also have SKX007K2 with ss strap for 119 pounds

  • I've got another which watch should I buy question; this is probably going to seem quite extravagant but it's not my money so I'll just say it how it is & hope someone can help (please):

It's my girlfriends 30th Birthday next month & her dad has generously offered to buy her a nice watch (in the "something to keep for the rest of your life & remember you got it for your 30th" kind of thinking). She has asked me which ones I think she should try as she's never really looked into high-ish end watches that much & whilst I could reel of a whole list of watches I would like, the women's watch world seems a bit limited. If I lay out the broad guide-lines could someone point me in the right direction please?

The budget will be between £2-3k; as her dad is buying it, it will need to be new & be purchased from a bricks & mortar shop in London. He's nearly 70 so it will have to be a brand he's heard of - he's quite into luxury products so I imagine he knows most big brands, he just won't know anything really new or super niche.

Style wise she likes kind of classic styling, preferably no (or not too many) jewels on the face & it'll need to be mostly gold or rose-gold (she doesn't wear silver coloured jewelry). Nothing too big or blingy.

I've suggested the Tag Heuer Aquaracer with rose-gold but I'd like to give her some more informed opinions too. Any suggestion would be much appreciated.

  • I bought my wife a Rado Jubilé which is ceramic and looks gorgeous and different - main reason was the hypoallergenic nature of ceramic as her skin was sensitive to metal straps

  • Hello , noob question here , what is the watch 2nd from bottom on the bottom picture?
    many thanks

  • From this brief I'd have to say Omega - all the way.

  • That's a Darwil Luxe '66, i have the white faced version too, nice neat little watches

  • Omega Constellation.

  • Got a modded Monster with military dial and green sapphire crystal!

  • Thanks for the input everyone - I will let her know the forum has spoken.

  • In my opinion Omega or Rolex (if she's happy with the Rolex connotations). I'd aim for automatic rather than quartz if you are splashing out thousands. Mechanical will last a lifetime, quartz will if spare movements are available in years to come...

I just got my sister an Omega Constellation quartz, in stainless, for £370. I think I'd have pushed for a plain-as-possible Rolex Oyster if funds had permitted.

  • That is a very nice watch , sorry I miswrote and meant the 3rd from bottom! apologies

  • ah, that is my favourite watch, a timefactors prs-1 speedbird . :)

  • that is an amazing watch , only 300 pieces produced

  • yup, i chose it for my 21st birthday and is the catalyst for my recent obsession with watches - Foolishly it hadn't been serviced since 2002 and one day last summer the rotor fell off, dumbfounded by the £220 estimate to fix it (the watch cost me £180 originally) rather than send it off i bought the tools and did it myself. Still needs a proper service by a pro but it went from a dead watch to wearable again, since then i've been mildly obsessed with all things horological!

  • Mad props and #rep to @umop3pisdn for the Nato. Turned my 22 year old bought-new and recently unloved Lorus quartz into a thing of beauty, for me at least. Thanks!
