  • Bloody hell, now I wish I'd watched this.

  • Lol at the interview though, the sky classics motto: "lets just try and stay upright"

  • Because Boonen was more worried about Terpstra than Stannard maybe

  • That's what they really didn't do....

  • Didn't happen that much, agreed it did a bit, but for the majority of the 40km the Ettix boys were pulling hard

  • 10 mins to go for Sarah Storey's hour record attempt.

  • They had to to keep away from Vanmarcke and GVA

  • I'd like to know how you'd get him to do a turn?

In Quickstep's situation you roll out repeated attacks or just keep him guessing who's going and/or chasing.

    Do you even #armchairds ?

  • The gap was down to 13 seconds at one point

  • ...enough of, obviously.

  • They had to, to keep Vanmarcke and Van Avermaet off, Stannard stayed cool and took full advantage instead of panicking and riding with them.

  • When is the last 5k up on YouTube, want to watch that again. Hell I want to watch the last 40k again

  • In years past races have generally had full tv coverage on YouTube by the evening. Can't remember the names of the accounts but not normally hard to find.

  • Holy fk! Watched the whole live stream in French, totally worth it - what a finish!

  • He looks as fresh as a fucking daisy

  • Ian VandenStanertd

  • Amazing ride by Stannard. Easy to panic in a situation like that but he played it cool, took advantage of EQS' concerns about Vanmarcke getting back on, then only rode when he absolutely had to.

One of the best wins I've seen in some time.

  • Nothing but class from that ride. Proper good watching.

  • Since Daniel Martin won Lombardia yes.

  • Yeah, that's what I'm saying, but you said Stannard must've been beaten up for 40km by quickstep which he really wasn't, he sat on and only had to close a gap once or twice until the last 2km.

You don't make him do a turn, but you do make him chase attacks, I think EQS were too worries about the chasers (who would've been shattered by the time they bridged, and if they did attack, Stybar had just sat on their wheels so could've covered)

Only one rider, ideally Boonen (who's got the sprint), needed to be fresh, they should've started attacking him in the last 10km

And clearly from the above, i definitely do #armchairds

@Colin_the_Bald they did, but not as much they actually did, like I say, Stybar's presence should've made them attack Stannard more

  • In other news - Sarah Storey hit 45.502km but didn't get the 46.065km required for the record.

  • considering Van Moorsel did it on a non-aero bike, apparently that's a very tough record to beat

  • I just saw the last 10km courtesy of steephill / sporza and fuck me, good effort ian.

I presume he just sat on the wheels of that EQ trio for most of the time? Apols if this is covered above, I've not gone through the thread. Even if he did just wheelsuck, great effort.

Also, nice to see Belgian towns looking as dull and unattractive as ever there.
