  • Fair; did anyone 'on here' had a breakaway in past or still has?

The only reasons I am even considering the cross frame because its cheap (used) I will be only using it on road. Is it a good idea? A to C of the fork is quite high plus need to figure out what mini V work with 5800 levers ..

Otherwise I'll downsize and get a brand new road frame. Sadly they dont sell them here I think. Anyone heading to US of A? Or should I pay the tax man?

  • Pay for luggage upgrade?

    :)

If the breakaway rides like the swisscross it'll be fantastic.

    on road?

What are the customs charges on top of 20% VAT for bike stuff?

  • on road?

Can't imagine it'd have any problems. I rode one cross-spec and it felt great. Ritchey do make a steel road frame but I'm not sure there is a Breakaway version of that?

Handling fee is 2.5% I think. Google HM customs.

  • Better?

Kinda want some lairy bartape but don't know what to go for.

  • Same blue as branding. But in cloth (lighter hue)

  • Silva Nastritalia blue fadez.

  • Blue n yellow or 2nd from left.

    or

  • have an 8 speed regina freewheel which was hoping to install with 8 speed shifters on alan, but rear spacing is 126 mm , and as frame is aluminium i can't cold set, so may have to be 7 , as wheels re-dished to accommodate 8 speed freewheels can be weak according to interweb, but will re measure 8 just to see difference

  • Seem to remember reading that the length of unsupported axle is another weakness, prompting the introduction of freehubs with eight speed.

  • think you read what I did, so will revert to victory dt shifters and 7 speed freewheel

  • Seem to remember reading that the length of unsupported axle is another weakness, prompting the introduction of freehubs with eight speed.

That was already a problem with any multiple freewheel hub, and freehubs were invented quite early*, although not really popularised until Shimano brought out their 6-speed models in the early 1980s

    *e.g. Bayliss-Wiley in 1938

  • "...and there is no new thing under the sun."

Why so long before freehubs became the standard?

Did it just require someone with Shimano's clout, or was eight speed the critical limit (that could no longer be ignored) for freewheels, as eleven is for 130mm OLD?

  • Did it just require someone with Shimano's clout?

I'm sure that's part of it. However, even today a freehub is a premium product, as can be seen from the screw-on multiple freewheels on BSOs, so probably just as large a part was the rapid increase in productivity and wealth which made previously high-end products mainstream.

well here's what blac 'n' yello splash look like on integralters..

    I'd go for B&W

  • bw

  • They certainly used to make a break-away road bike. One sold on ebay lately for not too much money.

I'd personally like to keep my options open on such a bike and have the ability to fit big tyres and go off-piste when travelling in exchange for a slight hit on on-road handling.

  • Integralters look misplaced on frames with steep headtube angles.

  • Needed something to lock up at Paddington for a couple of months, so I'm bringing 2007 back with a gaspipe conversion. Ride is best described as "uninspiring". Sensiblification planned with mudguards and brakes.

  • my hong fu is almost done :-)

  • Just waiting on that new groupset huh

  • Phew! New page - can't really follow that pristine gios - @Gaston_Fr is this your job?!

Rainy evenings meant more preparing swapping and of course trademark nonsense touches.

dolomite getting ready for serious shakedown. BB has been flushed with penetrant for weeks, must try to get it out final big job. left space for front luggage / rack. lamp bracket can be swapped for continental use. reflectors.

newly christened 'Buddy' got new stem, 9sp friction, still no new seatpost so doesnt fit, and now the wheels barely go round.... soon.
