Thanks @TomvanHalen You are correct about smooth shifting with shimano chainrings. I have a 105 (5700) on my steel workhorse. It's done 3000 miles and has never fallen off.
However I'm going to install a rotor compact chainset on this bike and want it to be faultless on rides that are up to 200km (yes really) http://www.opencycling.com/coast-to-coast-in-a-day/
chain catchers? should I buy one or they just a gimmick? if I should get one, which? Token, K-edge and of course Rotor all have versions but what is the difference?
