  • eh?

  • Thank you MG.

I was sickened and disgusted by the events in Paris last week. Although crap like that was prevalent thirty years ago, football has gone a long way to changing attitudes within society. Racism and many other isms are prevalent in football but also in society as a whole and football has, to a great extent, been more forthright in its determination to rid society of racism at least. The days of Paul Canonville are long gone. Today football has brought an international perspective into many people's lives.

Sadly, racism is raising its head in society again and so, it is not too surprising that it is reemerging in football. Hopefully the outcry that Paris provoked will make people think twice before repeating that nonsense.

There has been a considerable amount of hypocrisy over the past week as well. Some have maintained that it is just a Chelsea issue. It is not, it is an issue within society as a whole. Some have used it to press their own narrow minded view of the world. Some have used it to push other forms of intolerance. "Rent boy racists" was an oft repeated phrase combining a holier than thou attitude towards racism with homophobia.

At Chelsea, we could take on the insults and start calling ourselves "The Rentboys" or even "The racists". This would be entirely counterproductive. It would engender both hatred of gay people and acceptance of racism. This is why Tottenham's acceptance and use of the "Y-word" is unacceptable and must be stopped, whatever David Cameron might think.>

"football has, to a great extent, been more forthright in its determination to rid society of >racism at least" >

C'mon Clive....football has helped preserve this in so many ways:

Terry was given the England captaincy after being the only person I've seen wind up the normally passive Ledley King into a rage, calling him a fucking black monkey. I believe the FA were 100% complicit in this cover up as they removed all content of the incident which was freely available to watch for quite some time in the run up to his promotion.

He's later involved in the Anton Ferdinand thing and we have Jose coming out to say, "One thing I know about JT is that he is 100% not racist."

Youth teamer Jacob Mellis got sacked for letting off a smoke bomb. Ashley Cole kept on despite shooting someone with an air rifle.

Liverpool are still in the dark ages when it come to these types of issues. The Suarez thing was shambolic...Tshirts?!
Robbie Fowler/Graeme Le Saux... Yet Charles Itanje sacked for having a laugh during a Hillborough ceremony.

I guess it depends on how good/valuable you are for the severity of your punishment but this
kind of double talk surely undermines any true equality drives.

ahem, you mean how we're bringing on your youngsters?>

    Plural?

    Oh and thanks.

  • It is not just football. Try the media.

Fowler and Ferdinand given jobs as pundits...

  • Wisdom and Ibe...

  • Of course! How is he getting on? Always felt he was more likely to be sold- too short for his favoured position as center half.

In the words of Mr T: Politics maaaan.

  • Pulis obviously doesn't rate him at West Brom. Maybe the Baggies can shed light on this. I thought he was a dependable, but unspectacular, right back. Did the defensive duties well, but doesn't offer the attacking threat that some managers crave.

    He parks where he wants.

  • Off to be a guest on The Chelsea Fancast tonight. An internet video channel with 40,000 viewers worldwide.

    Live from 7pm.

Recorded version available on line thereafter.

  • Pretty sure Itandje was released from his contract more than a year after the incident? Good of you to spell his name right, by the way - you must be an expert.

The statement added: "As someone who has spent years working with disadvantaged communities in Africa and India, he can point to a CV in human rights work which undermines any suggestion he is racist."

    The video suggests otherwise.

Not being racist for 99.99% of your life doesn't cancel out the other 0.01% when you are being racist.

  • Wisdom is a total donkey.

He's ponderous, has a terrible first touch and can't lift he's knees more than a 1cm above there standing position when running which makes him slow and constantly off balance. He almost always passes backwards and looks lost about 90% of the time.

  • thats mclaren for you

  • Will be interested to see how the whole Paris situation is covered.

  • Good to see the FA haven't been swayed by Mourinho's diversionary tactics. Maybe there was intent, maybe Matic came on his blindside after he'd played a pass, it's hard to tell from a video. When it happened none of the Chelsea players complained until Matic leapt up and got himself sent off.

Given that we've got City coming up it seems a bit self-defeating for Mourinho to try and get Barnes suspended.

I assume that the FA will be looking at Costa kicking Shackell whilst the ball is nowhere near. Admittedly Shackell hasn't got the idea of hurling himself to the ground at the lightest touch yet (about 8 seconds in https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BxXQi0mSqNvaT2VmNG11dEd3TzBjbzBNcHJST0RKNDZPcEVr/view )

    From Wiki:

    Hillsborough memorial incident[edit]
After the memorial service for the twentieth anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster in April 2009, complaints were made by members of the congregation that Itandje had been laughing and behaving inappropriately during the service.[12] His actions were condemned by the Liverpool hierarchy,[who?] who stated that they would be seeking to impose the maximum punishment possible.[12] Itandje apologised to the grieving families and to Liverpool fans for his behaviour and was suspended by the club for 14 days.[13] He did not play another game, at reserve or first team level, for the club.

In the exclusive interview with Le Journal du Dimanche, Itandje spoke out about the Hillsborough incident for the first time. He said when he saw himself laughing on Television, he described this as "awkward and unwelcome." As a result of this, Itandje stated the club never supported him for this and the club supporters started to threatening him saying: "Do not walk in the street, you'll get mugged." His increasing stress caused him to have eczema on his hand.[14]

Following his move to Atromitos, Itandje apologised emphatically:

I am sorry. I am sorry. I am sorry. A thousand times, I am sorry. To the club, to the fans and especially to the families, I am deeply sorry.[15]

Clubs moves when they see fit(/profit).

So he hasn't developed much...Hopefully this is a shop window for him. The one I want is Teixeria

  • So Barnes has escaped with no punishment, Atkinson is not set to receive a break from action and Matic is still banned for three games - despite someone attempting to finish his career. Yup seems legit.

  • Matic has been one of the best things in world football this season and some melt from the backend of knowhere is guilty of GBH. I'd sue the cunt.

  • We want Carrow Road to be a pleasant, welcoming place for ALL fans. I for one would be delighted to see an Ipswich fan, his mother and his sister come and enjoy the game whatever the result and both of them get home safe and sound. OTBC!

    http://www.eveningnews24.co.uk/news/police_pledge_to_crack_down_on_disruptive_football_fans_at_derby_between_norwich_city_and_ipswich_town_1_3960679

  • You could see that one coming as it left Norwich.

  • Norwich fans get called sheepshaggers and tractor drivers up and down the country, it's nice they have Ipswich to look down on in turn. See three Leeds fans got long bans for setting a smoke flare off at Carrow Road.

  • As if Ipswich is the butt of jokes from Norwich fans, that doesn't even make sense.

Norwich is clearly the inbred place.

Also, what's OTBC? Out of The Budgie Cage?

  • I thinks it's a chant they made up a couple years ago when they were last in the premier league.

  • Tim knows more than me about wisdom, he actually watches live matches. i think a lot of albion fans sounded impressed to begin with. He somehow kept Gamboa out of the team and I rate Gamboa and would love to see him play. Can never do a squad any good when a loanie youngster is playing week in week out and an international new signing never gets a game. Pulis has decided not to use any of our 5 new fullbacks either left or rights side. Fuck knows what is going on there but we seem to be steadying the ship a little bit.
