  • Tragic. So sad. Of course I don't know how it happened but I felt angry when I heard this. I live just round the corner. The extent of the lane closures and the lack of vision on the roads around Victoria make them obvious candidates for enforced 20mph speed limits.

  • Awful news. My heartfelt condolences to the family and friends.

  • My heart sink.

    AGAIN!

    R.I.P. Rider, Wife, Mother.

  • Great sadness. My sincerest condolences. R.I.P. fellow rider.

  • Felt sick when I heard this earlier. Condolences to her loved ones.

  • .

  • RiP

  • A guy on the CTC forum was behind the lorry, and witnessed the whole thing:

    http://forum.ctc.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=94319#p868862

    Tragic.

  • @Rhodrich remember:

    "Fault/Blame:
    When posting please remember:

    1) The family and friends of the person injured may read it.
    2) Legal action is always a potential, and you should not make statements that could affect the outcome of such a statement if found via Google.
As such speculation over who was at fault for any given incident will not be tolerated in Rider Down threads.
This includes the re-telling of third party accounts.
Any comment which strays into supposition or apportionment of blame will be edited where possible or deleted in it's entirety."

  • Really sad news. Thoughts with loved ones.

  • So sad. My thoughts are with her husband and children.

I drive through this godawful trench every night. It's horrible. Two very narrow lanes of traffic, with no spare room whatsoever. Sometimes you see pedestrians lost, and trying to walk up against the flow of traffic. Scary enough. And now this.

    How to make things change?

  • The lorry involved today belonged to haulage contractor Gordon - the same firm whose HGV was involved in the death of hospital porter Brian Holt in Mile End Road in 2013 {LFGSS Rider Down thread}.

Gordon's boss Arran Gordon told the Standard: "We are sorry for the family's loss. the driver is devastated."

It is understood that the vehicle involved at Victoria was fitted with cameras and that video evidence of the collision will be available to police.

    wonderings:

    1. was the Gordon HGV fitted with the latest safety equipment (in addition to the cameras) - that meets LCC guidelines?
    2. had the driver (as employed by Gordon) had urban driving training that meets the LCC guidelines?

    @charlie_lcc

    ?!

  • A cyclist killed by a Crossrail lorry as she rode a Boris bike in Victoria was today named as a French-born mother of two.

Claire Hitier-Abadie, 36, collided with the construction vehicle as it turned left from Bressenden Place into Victoria Street before 8am yesterday.

    RIP Claire Hitier-Abadie

    wondering,

    1. are Crossrail contracting with construction companies who have HGV vehicles and drivers that meet the latest London Cycling Campaign guidelines?

    @charlie_lcc

  • What are we asking for?
We’re calling on all councils in London to take our Safer Lorries, Safer Cycling pledge (read details). It asks councils to put the following measures in place for all council-operated lorries and for all lorry contractors:

Cyclist-awareness training for all lorry drivers Training involves lorry drivers riding bicycles on the road so they can better understand the vulnerability of people who cycle. This training is low cost and available all over London. All lorries to have the latest safety equipment This means a full set of safety mirrors and sensors/cameras that help the driver be more aware of vulnerable road users near their vehicle. These cost a few hundred pounds per vehicle.

  • This isn't the thread for those 'wonderings' @howradmichello
    I've copied your questions here:

  • This is tragically sad and particularly hits home to me. Just awful for all concerned.

  • thoughts and prayers for the rider, family and friends.

  • The Met police want to talk to whichever cyclist it was that witnessed this.

I have no idea how to link to twitter however.

    RIP rider.

    Here we go:

Officers from @MPSRTPC are appealing for witnesses following a collision between a lorry and cyclist in #Victoria http://t.co/wYvTTdxBJ3

    RIP.

  • Met police officer investigating posted on the CTC forum thread and witness was messaged.

  • There are the usual yellow accident call for witness signs up around the junction. And a bunch of flowers tied to the fence at the traffic island; that bough a tear to my eye passing by there just now.

  • @howradmichello
You should be making a Freedom of information request of Crossrail link here http://www.crossrail.co.uk/about-us/freedom-information/
to confirm if their lorries have the latest technology
