  • Ive had this for a little while now, ridden it through a couple of winters and its served me well. It deserves some upgrades/is in need of some tlc. I would like to upgrade it before summer and then get a dedicated winter bike next year.

Hopefully get some advice along the way as well.

    Below, in it's current state:

I have already aquired sram force 22 that I will put on once we are through the worst of winter. The other main upgrade I would like to make is a new wheelset, but I have yet to decide.

    Couple of ideas:

    • carbon - along the lines of reynolds assault
    • Build up a wheelset from scratch (Pacenti SL23, archetypes..)

Ideally I would like a 1500g wheelset and spend <£700

Slightly hesitant on the carbon as i'm not sure if they would be suitable as my only wheelset

    also to do:

    • sand off planet-x logos from bottle cages
    • cut steerer!
    • matching zipp seatpost
  • I went for the Reynolds Attacks as they were super cheap last year from PBK and a bit lighter than the Assaults. My CAAD10 is a fair-weather bike though, if you want to use this during the wetter months then I'd keep the wheels already on it and splash out on some carbon for the summer.

  • Ideally I would like a 1500g wheelset and spend <£700

Kinlin XR200 + BHS 24/20 hubs + CX rays + latex tubes + decent clincher

£400-ish leftover for summer cycling holiday

  • I actually meant attacks, how do you find them? Been down any alp-like descents?

this will become a fair weather bike

  • No alpine descents but I've found heavy braking to be fine. It's different to braking on alloy rims as the pads are super soft but you get used to it. Here is mine btw:

  • looks ace^ think im sold.

Got these in the sale while un-decieded on what wheelset or build to go for. Saving 54g compared with my current front qr. Rear has qr for turbo on it at the mo, but 100g savings on my current wheelset aint bad for £20!

  • cant find the reynolds cheap anywhere so going to go for something more sensible

going to see if my lbs can source my planned wheelset:

    Novatec Super Light hubs 20/24 - 288g
    Pacenti SL23 - 900g
    cx ray spokes

  • I still have these... if you're interested...
