2015-02-05, Rider down, Caledonian Road / Brewery Road junction

Twitter reporting a very bad collision between a cyclist and the driver of a UPS van this morning. Fingers crossed it's not as bad it sounds...

Twitter is reporting very nasty incident today.
Caledonian Road closed.
Thoughts are with all concerned.

Cycled past there about 11:50. Road still closed, all taped up.
Looked to me like the UPS van was pulling out of Brewery Road onto Cally Rd. It was stopped halfway across Cally Rd facing the prison. I didn't hang around.
Hope the cyclist makes a good recovery.

Brewery road and Blundell street are basically a mini industrial estate and I see way too much poor driving.

My commute too! Loads of poor driving there is due to people trying to use those roads as a shortcut too...bad for other road users, but really bad considering the primary school down there has entrances on both roads. Would be nice to see a bit more effort to enforce the 20mph limit in places like that.

This was a friend/colleague on his way to work on Brewery Road that morning.
He's shown amazing strength and positivity in his recovery from what was a very serious incident, he's still here thanks to a few quick acting people who were on the scene in moments.
I let him know about this thread, obviously he said to thank everyone for their thoughts and support.

I'm very relieved to hear he's on the mend, though I'm sure he has long road to recovery ahead.
