Stiff in all the right places, grounded and comfortable, this frame truly won me over to steel and has served me exceptionally well over the last few months.

Alas, I’m having a rethink about exactly which bikes I need for what – and currently I can’t really justify holding onto this frame. I’m a student living in a shared house with no garage, so space and money are both big priorities. Looking to pick up a Pinarello for “Sunday Best” so the money from this will go into my savings pot for that.

The frame was built by Terry Dolan out of Dedacciai 25 Cr Mo4 Micro-Alloyed steel, and painted to replicate the Casino team Colnago C40’s of the mid-to-late 1990s. This is about as close as I can get to date its construction. It was purchased on this forum from user ‘keepitmencap’ 8/9 months ago (for £125) and covered around 600km in that time. Please have a look at my build thread for pics built up. I used & (metaphorically) abused the frame, but it was always cleaned and looked after following rides.

    The Specifics:
    ST C-C – 54cm
    ST C-T – 57cm
    TT C-C – 57cm

Frustratingly, the bike came with almost immaculate paintwork, and it stayed that way until a heavy handed attempt to remove the seatpost resulted in one of the bolts on the frame jig scoring a 1cm-square chip into the paint on the inside of the left seatstay. I have included a picture of this and it is the only notable blemish or imperfection, barring reasonable wear and tear and some paint chipping on the front mech hangar (also pictured).

Frame comes without BB, but includes Dura Ace 7400 headset (lovely bit of kit, could do with a service) and a Time Stiletto carbon 1” threadless fork.

Hoping this will go to someone who will ride the granny out of it… It really is under heavy workload that I found this frame came to life. Included in the price is a personal guarantee that you won’t find a better riding (or looking) steel frame for the same money

Breaks my heart letting it go, but needs must & all that…

Price: £100 (Collection in Brighton, or will post at buyer’s expense)

Many thanks for looking. Please tell me if you feel I’m being unreasonable with the price.

    Ollie

  • Could somebody please confirm whether or not the link to the pictures works?

  • The pictures work for me. Nice frame.

  • Nice frame great price to. Just built my 853 cougar they are awesome frames. It appears terry definitely had a similar paint design going on,on a lot of his frames though.

  • Thanks chaps.

Took my new winter bike (Specialized Allez with all the components from the Cougar) out for the first time today, and the difference in ride quality was staggering.. Cougar wipes the floor with the Allez

  • Is this the one I sold? Can't remember who it was to...shame about the paint she was mint.

I'm now bikeless, might be interested...

  • Great frame.
    Great price.

  • The very same!

Really is a shame I haven't got the room for it. Although part of me hopes it doesn't sell so I can store it at my parents for a later time when I can build it up properly.

  • Ollie here's my take on the cougar situation. As a cougar fan for the sake of £100 do as you say and stick it away in your parents loft. You won't get another or unlikely. Here's a pic of mine (finishing building it with carbon record and chorus ;)

  • seems like a great deal, don't people normally pay 40 - 60 for a time stiletto on it's own...?

  • How much did I flog it to you for? I think it's some kind of karma for me to buy it back...I only sold it as I was skint, and I'm now bikeless!

I remember the frame being almost NOS, lovely paints

  • Buy it.
    Build it.
    Ride it.
    Smile.

  • That's lovely dude, probably the nicest one I've seen! I must admit the temptation to keep it is growing...

  • You listed it for 135 and accepted my offer of 125 as I was very skint at the time!

To be honest, and I know this is hardly gonna help me with selling it, but the fact that the paint was so very perfect is what has made this seatstay chip kinda ruin it for me.

I don't know how to get it addressed as the paint is so intricate (carbon effect) that I wouldn't know who to take it to... Any ideas?

  • I've sat here for 10 minutes straight just looking at the frame on my desk and remembering all the places it's taken me, and how it's made me feel along the way. Someone once told me that you occasionally come across frames that you should just never let go of, and I think this might be one of them.

Terribly sorry to waste everybody's time, but I'm keeping it...

    SALE WITHDRAWN.

  • Ollie ;) good man and smart move. By the way you haven't wasted anyone's time they've had opportunity to buy it.
In terms of paint the carbon affect I've been told it is basically a mess laid over the top of the black then spayed silver. Sounds simple I know! I have got a couple of touch ups on mine is that helps and straight black blends in really well. All the best pics when is built please Cheers Jon 😉

  • .

  • oh bugger

  • I owned that frame at one point....

  • Tel the one above or mine 😨

  • I've emailed a local respected frame builder for advice/repair, and I'm contemplating just making this my summer bike and throwing all my 'new frame' savings at it... Pink Chris King everywhere

  • Fuck me
    it's like a love story
it brought a tear to my eye

  • I bought it off ebay, but remember looking at that RB ad first and was convinced it was the same one.

I still think he should sell it back to me! ;-)
