    Where were they starting from? It's different for country people, for whom 'Town' is anywhere in Greater London. I can be in the London Borough of Hillingdon and tell people I'm heading into town, meaning anywhere in the Cities of Westminster and London. Somebody in Mayfair who is heading into town is going to the Square Mile.

    London. Not greater London though.

    Basically my girl friend and I have a sort of ongoing argument / discussion on this.

    She doesn't believe it's a used term for the West End/Central London. I think it is relative to the context, but usually means the West End. Ie "i need to go to town to buy x".

    Basically I wanted to check if it was recognise by anyone else.
