DA stem is sexytiems.
-
• #3
In terms of compatability, if you stick with post '87 and pre 11 speed shimano nothing will go wrong.
-
• #4
Yes, yes it is. It even has a hole in it.
Excellent, yeah I was a little concerned about the 105 shifters.
-
• #5
Those bloody front mech clamp shims are a ripoff.
GLWB!

Yeah I saw some expensive ones but I have it on good faith that this should be fine:

Re gears, as 6pt says you should be fine re compatibility. Is it 130mm rear spacing?
Madegood.org has pretty good video sections on setting up gears.
The one thing I'd think about don't early is checking you've got all the right ferrels and little bits like that. It's always a massive ball ache when you're almost there and then have to spend a week tying to work out which bit you need and another week waiting for it.

Good point and thanks for that link, really handy. I'm going to head down to Bristol Bike Project to start putting things together soon. They have some good experience down there, so should go reasonably to plan!

Or hit me up for some stand time in my garage, I've speed my ride with pretty much thus set up.
That shim will be ace, I so want that stem it's untrue. All that shit will be okay, and we can cold set the extra 4mm on the rear if needed, oh and you got down tube cable guides?
-
• #10
I've also got a set of cinelli criteria if that stem is 26.4
-
• #11
Ah cheers fella, sounds smashing. Stem 26.0 unfortunately, and yeah rear is 130 but may have pulled in a little from fitting a fixed hub, though seems to sit on the new one's fine. What exactly do you mean by DT cable guides? There's guide brazes on the top of the BB, one on the chainstay and a node for a clamp at the top of the DT.

frame looks massive. Have you considered a bike fit?
-
• #13
htfu.
-
• #14
The little guides that go on the down tube bosses, help route the gear cables.
-
• #15
These http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/mobile/shimano-alloy-braze-on-down-tube-cable-stops-with-barrel-adjusters-prod5511/
-
• #16
Nope not got those.
-
• #17
That's the other fiddly bloody part that costs more than you think it should.
-
• #18
does the frame even have the bosses for them? :/
-
• #19
No, it's got a little rectangular node to secure a clamp to.
-
• #20
Like that, but attached to your frame? Then you're golden. If you're back in London any time soon I might be able to supply you with those things in the SJS link above, but for a price... -
• #21
Unfortunately not braze ons, no. Just this on the underside of the DT, which I assume is to secure a clamp.

that's a bit odd, looks like someone may have ground off the cable stops like these
-
• #23
Curious, I assumed it was to stop a clamp from slipping?
-
• #24
Yes. Probably. I've only seen them on the top of the down tube sometimes in nice shapes like hearts.
You'll obvs need some sort of band-on cable guide now. Or you might be able to get some stops braze on, although that would quickly add up.
Hey
I'm going to start building up an old Condor frame. I picked it up last year and used as an emergency (fixed) get around. It looked like this:

I bought a Dolan Pre Cursa before xmas, and now intend to give this lovely Condor gears and some dignity back. Saying that, I intend to leave it in the slightly tatty condition it is in.
List imminent; parts I currently have:

Not doing a rush job on this really, as I intend to spend all my money on sliding sideways down mountains before the summer. Will be putting a rack or two on it and heading out for some exploring/camping when the snow melts and the sun comes out.
Note: I have never put together a geared bike and have basic knowledge about compatibility in respect of components, would appreciate any recommendations (in general).
Will update when I commence
