Converting a Coventry Eagle to ss/fixie

Posted on
  • Hi,
I have a very old Coventry Eagle road bike that I currently use for the ride to work. I have been thinking that I want a SS or fixie. I was wondering if I would be better to buy a new bike a sell my CE, or convert mine. I do not have a lot of money to do either and was wondering people opinions.
    Thanks,
    Lee.

  • You could just shorten the chain and set it up on a gear ratio that works for you with an ok chainline. Ditch the gear levers and derailers. Cheapo ss.

  • That sounds like a good plan.

Do you need a new chain for that or just remove the links?

  • Same chain. If you have verticaldropouts you'll need to fashion some sort of chain tensioner out of you rear mech to get the chain tension. If horizontal then no prob.
If you can afford a ss/ fixed rear wheel you can drop quite a bit of weight off the bike.

  • Going to pick up a new set of wheels this weekend so i guess I'm going to convert it!
