Re gears, as 6pt says you should be fine re compatibility. Is it 130mm rear spacing?
Madegood.org has pretty good video sections on setting up gears.
The one thing I'd think about don't early is checking you've got all the right ferrels and little bits like that. It's always a massive ball ache when you're almost there and then have to spend a week tying to work out which bit you need and another week waiting for it.
