Going by last year, they just didn't seem to have a handle on things.
The PU was poorly conceived, difficult to work on, many parts were badly designed (to an embarrassing extent), the mapping was miles out, it was heavy, needed complex cooling and all those things meant it integrated fussily with the car... and they didn't really know how to sort it. Certainly in the short term.
In complete contrast the Merc is excellent in all aspects and it's just no nonsense, no messing about.
It may seem clichéd to say French vs German engineering but it really does look like just that. But it's woth noting Merc did poach most of the best engineers from Viry in 2012-2013 to work on the new V6 hybrid.
Oh and the Merc PUs are made in Brixworth, UK. -

Cheers for that.
So what's the scoop on McHonda?
-
• #4654
They are the great unknown. I don't know any more than the general public really.
Ron Dennis has been harking on about using brand new technology that no one else has before... and the Honda sounds bloody weird. Not in a good way. -
• #4655
That sounds... Broken. I bet a forum donation it sounds completely different in the next test. Probably just some reprogramming needed.
-
• #4656
That doesn't sound at all well - it sounds like a fucked vacuum cleaner. All that wheezing and whining will be long gone by the next test.
I'm not surprised they were wandering around, scratching their canisters.

This was good.
Won a nice little bet with a Hamilton Fanboy friend of mine with that. Very satisfying.
Well done Danny Ricciardo!

That hasn't arrived here yet...

0.7 of a second was impressive.
How badly is the Renault power unit going to affect him this year?
-
• #4660
He's going to win the championship one of these days. If he was in a merc, I think it'd be pretty close between Hamilton and him. He also gets bonus points for being a chilled dude.
-
• #4661
Badly.
But then he still won 3 races last year!

• #4662
you know who i thought would reach f1 a long time ago. gary paffett. i was reminded of scott speed just now. that dude sucked. the new force india looks lke the mclaren and mercedes. the new sauber pops!
-
• #4663
You must mean the Force India livery? They released that on last years car (with new nose fairing) since their new car hasn't even left the factory yet?
-
• #4665
Better than last years E22 I bet!
-
• #4666
There was a kid testing it in the mall earlier on - he looked like he was doing pretty well, but he did have to consult his engineers after he'd been round this particular branch of WH Smith a couple of times. I think I overheard him moaning about brakes and tyre degradation.

Probably been supplied with the wrong compounds for the track surface.

Go home Ferrari, you're drunk.

Also, is that the fucking batmobile afterburner? -

All going on in Barcelona right now.
Hamilton apparently too lovesick to drive.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/117729?source=mostpopularMore problems for McHonda.

Hamilton has been out whoring.
That picture makes the McHonda look like a big, droopy cock - I think that's where the problem might be.

So, no one publicly really knows for sure why Alonso crashed yesterday at the Barcelona test.
However, the rumours I'm hearing, that I cannot confirm, are that he got an electric shock (ERS related?) from the car, while driving it, that made him pass out! If true then this would explain the strange nature of how he left the track, the lack of official explanation and also why they didn't let Button carry on testing it. Basically that is pretty worrying! Alonso is still in hospital...
So, not been good for McHonda so far which is a shame as I'm sure if it worked it would be quick.Mercedes are looking pretty dominant at the moment - they've had some incredibly good lap times on the harder compound rubbers at a cold track.

That's terrible. I hope 'Nando recovers properly.
I get it now :) Would much rather see a competitive Renault, too.
