• Wierd ... did you fit new(ish) cleats to worn shoes?

  • my midway pro's have always had a shallow cleat recess, with new cleats or worn cleats, there's always clicking, clicking...

as mentioned upthread, prefer the deeper recess in DZR's

  • Am really tempted by these. I have the Giro republics but the replaceable sole parts need constant replacement. My Giro terraduro shoes are really hard wearing so would hope the vibram sole on these Rumbles do likewise and at £70 they appear to be worth a pop.

  • Re: Quoc Pham Hardcourt boots: Snap. Christmas pressie win.

Awaiting new pedals for new build before I try them though (am switching to ATACs on the new bike). They look and feel great about the house so part 1 is a pass.

Can you give them a bad review so they don't become ubiquitous and overpriced?

  • Found the giro rumbles for €69 and €10 for postage, so approx £60 all in from bike-mailorder.de will give them a go as a possible casual SPD shoe that should be reasonably comfy for walking and hoping the vibram sole will last reasonably well.

  • NEW BALANCE INTRODUCES THE C-SERIES CYCLING SNEAKERS JAN 20, 2015

This project has been in the works for some time now. We’ve already seen New Balance reach out to frame builders in the Boston area, so this shouldn’t be a huge surprise and while many would say the urban cycling “sneaker” has jumped the shark, it’s still exciting to see a brand like New Balance take its approach to a staple in any cyclists’ wardrobe: comfortable sneakers to ride a bike in.
Check out the full press-release below, including models, availability and pricing.

  • The full press-release from New Balance:
Boston-based New Balance introduces the new C-Series Collection, designed in the New Balance Lifestyle Design Studio in Tokyo, Japan. The new collection draws inspiration from emerging trends and applies it to three New Balance Lifestyle silhouettes for the modern, metropolitan consumer. The C-Series will be available in the CM600C in North America, with the CT700C and 996C available in Europe and Asia. The CM600C will be available on http://www.newbalance.com and select New Balance retailers in four colorways beginning February 1 for a suggested retail price of $119.95.

Designed as an urban cycling shoe, the New Balance CM600C, 996C and CT700C have a traditional sleek silhouette, reflective laces and high-density rubber in the forefoot of the outsole to withstand miles of urban community. The CM600C offers a bootie construction for an easy on and off fit, as well as a neoprene tongue designed with a hidden pocket to safely tuck laces away from the gears. The CT700C hi-cut style has an ankle strap to wrap around long pants – allowing for swift, uninhibited pedaling. Both the CM600C and CT700C include new reflective laser-etched pattern pops on the upper.
To launch the New Balance C-Series collection, the brand has joined forces with Tokyobike to create one-of-a-kind models based off two C-Series colorways, yellow and navy. The Tokyobike Limited Edition Classic Sport bicycles are light-weight, 8-speed city commuter bicycles done in a unique matte finish and are accessorized with the new Brooks of England Cambium line of grips and saddles. The bikes will be on display at Tokyobike’s New York City and London locations, as well as New Balance New York (150 Fifth Avenue).

  • I have the Kursks and they are great for to and from the pub, but the sole is pretty stiff and you get occasional cleat to ground contact, ive never walked that far in them though.

  • new year big price drop...

i always underestimate the size of my feet.
i'd like to replace these, so don't want to take too much of a hit.

that said, they were a gift so it's less painful.
pretty much new, maybe ridden in 50km, worn a total of two times.

  • Giro Rumbles have arrived. They look surprisingly normal even in size 47. Have yet to fit cleats but are comfy for walking in. Hoping there are no cleat/pedal interference issues. I seem to have narrow achilles, so a lot of shoes are a little loose around there causing shoes to slip around and the material at the back of the shoe to wear away. Will buy some heel grips and put them in before I properly start using the shoes.

Given they cost less then £60 all in I am quite impressed.

  • Let us know how you et on with them, I like to looks- best casual spd shoe I've seen in a while.

  • I like the purple ones... did you get them in the end? And if so, how do you get on with them?

  • Am having to avoid cycling where possible due to sciatic nerve problems so these have only been used a couple of times. The sole is good for walking, and yet not too soft for pedalling. One minor thing, the cleat recess could possibly be a little deeper, my time atac cleats do scuff the floor a little which will only get worse as the soles wear down, though hopefully having much more contact area than usual mtb type soles this will take longer to happen.

They are more blue than purple.

  • I picked up the Giro Rumble when they were on sale and so far liking them alot, replacing a pair of Dzr, no idea the model anymore - hightop, dreadfully soft (comfy) leather - they didn't last very long, had no grip when walking in the wet, bit of a shame really. So far so good with the Giro, feel very very solid on the bike, comfy off it too.

  • Quick update on the Quoc Pham Hardcourt Boot.
    Love them.

Best spd as casual footwear I've worn. The only ones I like as much are the DZR H2O's. Nice and solid, comfortable and feel bombproof, cleat recess is deep enough that your cleat isn't clacking on the ground, and the build quality makes them feel super tough. Bit of an ache when walking for long periods, but put that down to the stiffness of the shank.

    anyway, highly recommended..

  • Has anyone tried the Giro Rumble VR's?

pretty uninspired by the looks of all of the current casual shoes, they appear to be either old school plimsoles (Chrome) or look like they were designed in the early 2000's (dzr's)

  • would anyone pay £219 for these?

am I getting the casual shoe thing wrong?

  • Not when they (Giro Empire VR90) are available for £193 from Bike Discount, no. I might consider getting some if I was in the market for some high-end MTB racing shoes with an Easton EC90 full carbon sole, and if Giro did an HV version. I can't imagine a shoe with an EC90 sole would be particularly good for casual use though. Slightly uncompromising. A bit like taking a Lamborghini Aventador on the school rule. It'll do it, but it's not exactly the perfect tool for the job.

  • just been having a pootle around the Always Riding sight looking at the Giro Rumble VR, which look kinda pretty in a stumpy kind of way (see below), and stumbled across the empire's. Not sure I'd get them as an alternative to my Sidi's which is where their price point sits them, think it's the lacing..

  • These are about the best looking casuals out there right now, I just wish they would give the desiners more than one crayon. All black errthing is hot right now, but do we need all blue errything and all orange errything etc.......

  • sorry I know this is the casual shoes thread and I did UTFS but couldn't find a general road shoes thread

I've managed to fsck the plate on my left shoe, trying to wrestle a rusted cleat bolt out of it. am I fscked myself now (i.e. need to buy new shoes) or can I take them somewhere to get repaired? (think I already know the answer to this but just in case)

  • So I got a pair of the Giro Rumble VR, pretty comfy, nice to walk in with a stiff enough sole plate for putting power down and a nice deep cleat slot. For 60 your paying for just the vibram sole and a mesh/synthetic upper, pretty cold in the winter.

I'd say they are the best value for money out there right now, don't look awful and are actually nice to walk in, win.
