  • I have followed @Colm89 good advice and did the essential upgrades to my 'new' Gaggia Baby Dose.

    I have now fitted:

    1. A brass group head plate (circa 200g with 6 holes) to replace the original aluminium one (circa 75g with 4 holes). Apparently this helps the stabilising the temperature and distribution the water more evenly in the basket. (c. £15)
    2. An IMS competition shower screen. Apparently this also helps the water distribution through the basket. (c. £15)
    3. The Rancilio steam wand conversion - this works a treat and it was super easy to do. I can now froth like a boss. (c. £10)
    4. A Brita / Gaggia 'in tank' water filter, I already use Brita filtered water so this will help spacing descaling sessions. (c. £12)

    I have also purchased:

    1. a 58mm Reg Barber 'convex' tamper; and
    2. Colm89's Sage Coffee electric grinder which works really well.

I now have all the tools to make a great coffee so please pop in if you are around Brixton!

  • @scrablepouch - I did get all the parts from Espresso Service, yes.

Re-plate, I have changed machine, beans and plate at the same time so I can't say for sure.

The plate they have advertise is 4 holes & brass in colour (on photo) but the one I have received has 6 holes and is silver in colour (still made of brass though).

And yes, it is that top shower screen.
And just change the seal if it leaks (mine didn't on my old 2006 Gaggia).
