That's a graphical error. Nothing to do with restoring your hard drive etc will fix it.
You'll either need a new graphics card or logic board depending on what model you have (dedicated graphics card etc).
I seem to remember that some MBPs had a serious problem with this and Apple issued a free recall / fix. Got to Apple.com/support and find out if your model has an open recall.

Any clues what might be causing this to my MBPro guys? It did it a few days ago and recovered, though no joy with it all day today...grrr!
