This and Locke were probably my films of 2014, I saw Gongle knowing nothing about it or the book, think that helped, every twist and turn was a surprise, I was rapt throughout

It prompted some Autolux listening.

Ah, you're living in/near the big smoke too? ^_^

Watched Locke. OK.
On the list: "You and the night" may be OK, may be pretentious bodily excrement & "The wind rises" the last Hayao Mizaki film. Now if Wee Man only would put down the tablet for a bit...i've tried to raise interest but none forthcoming yet.
He does love Nausicaa though, perhaps cos it also creeps him out. Early horror fan me thinks...

I live in The Big Smoke and occasionally visit The Old Smoke for work. I'll be in Belfast (old) in a week for a couple of days...

Ah grand, are you going to any cycle rides? I usually can't make them as wee man can't cycle yet, but he's too heavy for a trailer.

"By one way of reckoning, this week — February 8, to be exact — can be called the 100th birthday of the medium that many of us have spent our lives enthralled with: the feature film. But don’t expect any parades, fireworks, grand speeches, or other shows of celebration. That’s because the film that premiered at Clune’s Auditorium in Los Angeles on February 8, 1915, was D. W. Griffith’s The Clansman, soon to be retitled The Birth of a Nation — the most virulently racist major movie ever released in the U.S."

Kingsman. equal parts love letter to roger moore, boys own adventure and 'wankaaaah' gesture to the recent po-faced james bond re-invention nonsense. the fight in the church = mind blown.
9/10.

I've been reading some John Le Carre and re-watched (again) Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (because it's fucking amazing and just keeps on giving). Also watched a couple of films on the subject I'd missed:
The Lives of Others (2006) – a tense and disturbing story.
A Most Wanted Man (2014) – blazing performances. Both very good.
Gonna sweep the house for bugs now...

Have you watched 'A secret in their eyes?' Not a spy thriller but has a similar feel. Also for some vintage spy action hunt down these classic tv shows 'Callan' & 'The Sandbaggers'.

Frank was ok, I prefer OG Frank though:

Ex Machina was excellent. It explored some interesting ideas and kept you guessing till the end.
Made a mistake taking a date to watch Inherent Vice last week. Tomorrow she wants to see Kingsman :'(.
