Have just agreed to own a one owner 1968 citroen DS...from south africa, in exchange for getting the car here and usuable so the daughter of the now dead owner can take it on a tour.
Oh holy fuck.
Oh and been offered a 2002 carbed 2 litre, that hasn't been on the road for a few I'm going to see later in the week. What is the bet it is a rot box.

If you're bringing cars back from South Africa now, get me a rust free rhd VW splittie Fleetline minibus, and an SA-made Rover SD1 3500.
Ta :-) -

Have met the daughter of the deceased owner. She wants to have a lasting reminder of her father, and the car is part of her memories as it has been her fathers for so long. Hence the travelling around the UK and europe and photographing the car for the memories.
Then making sure the car has a good home.....
Doesn't involve me going to SA...:(

@lynx That's awesome. Best of luck with that!
Has she specified an acceptable number of breakdowns for the trip? And were you to go to SA the choice motor to bring back would be a nice 3.0 GTV6
2002 almost guaranteed to be very crusty, but you've got to live in hope.
I've decide to punt my first ever car, since it is otherwise destined to be an eternal project.

Acceptable number of breakdowns....hopefully none after the wrinkles have been ironed out.
Have been out a few times and never saw a gtv6, but then I was more interested in 60's Lancia's and Mercs as that seem to sell well and easily. After having suds and alfettas I don't think I could sell a GTV6 and if I did have one it would have to have the 70s style metal flake paint job the same as a family friend had and that I seem to remember from a summer in Milton Keynes. Rock and roll.
Sorry to hear about that, but sometimes it is better to have the mental freedom.

2002 2l single carb, maybe a straight swap for the e30/e36 1.8is twin cam engine.
But then been looking at e30 to drop that engine into.

Big news! I'll have to come and take a look. Purely from a viewer perspective, don't think I'm quite in need of your services.

Anyone in the market for a sweet Roller?
-
• #22286
If it was a Royce then that would be great. But it's a space framed land cruiser with a Chevy engine and a glass fibre Corniche body.
I do love the shape of the corniche coupe though.
-
• #22287
So it looks great, is cheaper to tun, more reliable and tougher than a rr? What's not to love?
-
• #22288
It's £150k, that's one thing not to love.

Dont get a Defender, get a Hi-Lux!
We drove 5000km around SA over Christmas in Emile's double cab. It was fucking rad, and you can fix almost anything on it with a big fucking knife and a roll of gaffa tape.
Except the stereo.... We couldn't fix the stereo the day before we drove from Cape Town to Jozi In one hit. That was a boring drive...

On another note, what is the deal with the 2015 RHD 2.3 Mustang? £28k seems crazy cheap. Everyone gives it great reviews.
I'm tempted to trade the the scciroco in....Worth waiting a year for an ex-demo?
-
• #22291
The rr has been for sale for years.
-
• #22292
2.3 is the V6 turbo "EcoBoost"?
The deal is that it is a fucking awesome car.
-
• #22293
Yes 2.3 ecoboost. 312 HP It's a four cyclinder though. V6 is US only.
Apparently it knocks all current coupe rivals out the park. -
• #22294
It's a bit of a tank though.
Bristol isn't great for tank parking. -
• #22295
Ah I don't know about the total spec, but if everything else is the same, just a 4cyl rather than V6 I'd say it's still worth it. It's not meant to be that easy to park though. Worth an extended test drive when it's available as it sounds like you're keen. The only way to make sure.

How about the new Focus (yes really) RS : http://www.pistonheads.com/news/ph-eurocars/ford-focus-rs--full-details/31573
Same engine as the Mustang but tuned higher. Focus is smaller, lighter and more usable as well...
~320bhp + AWD (finally!)

Interesting how in the USA they're pitching the EcoBoost Mustang as the American man's M3, yet in the UK it's got less power than the Focus RS and nobody in their right mind would pick an RS over an M3 unless it was purely a money decision.
-
• #22298
OK I take that back, anyone not from Essex in their right mind.
-
• #22299
Also I can definitely see @hoops in a Mustang and not in a Focus RS, maybe an M3?
-
• #22300
M3/4 is nearly twice the price though - 57k before options.....
So this Formula E in Battersea Park.
The last race in Buenos Aires was pretty entertaining. Anyone actively been following it?
