Just got back from my first real long roadtrip in the Bimmer, bit worried about the steering. At low speeds it's fine, but anything above 60mph it feels a bit vague and it's really sending some nasty shakes through the steering wheel when hitting bumps or potholes. Think the bushings need looking at, hopefully it's nothing too expensive. The garage I bought it off gave me a 3 month warranty from these guys http://www.warrantyfirst.co.uk/dynamic.php so hopefully it's all covered.

Which model? My 530 was mega sensitive to tyre wear, especially on the rear. Shuddering on the brakes over 50, turned out to be uneven tyre wear rather than the warped rotors or control arm bushings I was expecting. Weird.

It's a E46 318ti, but I've only just put some new rubber on it 2 weeks ago. I was looking at a few forums the other night - seems like a common problem and could have something to do with the steering coupling wearing out. It's not shuddering on the brakes, it just feels a little loose at speed.
