If @rogan can stomach it, a trip to halfords could yield some budget tastic alu options.
Possibly worth checking out Swinley's finest, too.

a trip to halfords
I already suggested Evans. Isn't that enough suffering for the poor guy?

Thanks guys, the on one screams anti to me even though i really like the frame, I don't know why.
Genesis looks nice, good options.
I wanted 100mm forks because i didn't think I needed loads of travel but I guess it doesnt harm

Kinda. Longer travel forks add weight and amusing head angle changes as the suspension compresses. For fun bikes where you are regularly getting air and hitting bigger stuff.
Definately not for muddy slogs around Epping.

On one looks great and don't the forks have travel adjustment anyway? Personally I find more laid back geo a lot more fun for all types of riding. Ultimately suited to leisurely trail riding and anything else you fancy along the way.

Disclaimer: I'm an XC whippet and I have an 80mm 9kg hard tail and an 11kg 160mm travel monster jokes biek.

yeah, I think 100mm travel bikes look nicer, but this is for fun not looking at !

Can't see anything on there that I'd immediately cursing. The 'power spline' cranks/BB look a bit out of date now and the coil-sprung fork will be heavy and possibly over/under-sprung for your friend's weight.
The Jamis looks nice, for £35 more.

Good spot, would need a bigger size though. He's done gone and bought it now anyway

Extra lap for elites as compared to experts. I recognise a few names from the Experts so I think I'll enter that first race and see how I get on.

Frikking love my Latitude. Locked out the 120 forks and it climbed so well up sloggy Epping last week.
Saying that, I did build up a Pinnacle Ramin today that was flipping well specc'd for the money. I'm waiting to see what they bring out for the 650's. -
