installing ROMs is dead simple. Takes 4 minutes. My nexus 5 last two days easily. Usually running SlimLP.
You only got to install ADB and FASTBOOT on your computer the youre off to the races. Head over to XDA, do a Saturday morning of clicking around and get to it. Read before you ask. Ask before you flash. Its especially easy with Nexus devices.
I recommend SimpleAOSP or SlimLP
