It doesn't quite reflect the neon-hipster vibe in this thread, but I don't think there's anything wrong with plain black shorts.
Wiggle have several dhb "no-suspender" shorts, I have some of these and they seem like reasonable enough value. I've worn them over the top of compression shorts or tri shorts in IM races for a little extra padding and easy to slip off in T2.
