They were my concerns too, till I saw a destruction video somewhere online. Held up quite impressively. The buckle system is based on snowboard style ones so thy're quite secure. I'm not a downhiller but I do end up riding in locations or with people where I wish I had a full face at times, so I've been debating everytime I see a pic of it.
This doesn't help....

For that price why not just order 2 helmets?
Also from a safety point of view in an accident with it in full face mode the attachment mechanism will be a weak spot and likely won't be as good as a single part chin bar(unless they know lots of magic I don't).
