The walkie-talkie and the cheese grater in the City, however, are crimes against humanity

^ i thought the walkie talkie building looked great as sky scrapers go. plus the 'park' at the top is really well done.
anyway, anyone have experience with replacing mortice and simple yale barrel chamber locks? basically i have a mate who is used to be a locksmith and would help out but would ideally like to have a go myself if it's not something too difficult to do.
the vendor didn't give me all the keys when we moved in (just gave me 2!) and a couple of days later some random turned up and put a load of keys through the door, so for piece of mind think it's best to get the locks changed.

Replacing locks is pretty easy. The yale barrel is a standard fit old one out new one in. The mortice replacement should fit into the old aperture but measure the old one first as there are a few different sizes IIRC.

I've got one of these on the front door too, peace of mind without the faff of deadlocking every night

Your average B&Q will stock most standard sizes of door lock. Should be able to get a like for like replacement.

I've fitted these, and just keep a key handy. The locks can't be seen apart from a 5mm hole if you just use a key and no escutcheon.

escutcheon
I have learned something new today. Thank you.

do you have links for that lock ?
am looking for something similar -
• #7287
Can't find a link but it's an interior door lock, you can get a set for a few quid from B&Q, but I had to buy the knob separately from SDM, it's essentially just the standard splined key but with a knob and holes (oooooh!) to bolt it to the door

^ such a hypocrite. talks about her poor nephew not being able to get on the ladder whilst she's having a play with jumping on the BTL bandwagon in London as well.

I loled at that, that £250k that couldn't buy them a flat as it's all so unfair would have been a very nice deposit to give an affordable mortgage on a £500k place. "but it's all so unfair that I had to BTL"

Just exchanged contracts. Waiting to complete on notice.
As is the way with new-builds.

We have a 1br. There's a 2br with garage in the same block for 2 x price. I would like it.
Do I sell flat and buy bigger place or keep flat and try to scrounge a fresh deposit?
Or I could just be happy with this place and be mortgage free in a few of years and probably do it all again. What would Jeebus do? -
• #7297
Keep flat 1, scrounge a fresh deposit for flat 2.
Fill flat 1 with midgets, profit.

Good stuff. Can't remember if I said, but I'm off Grove Green Road. Renovation is taking longer than I expected. Surprise, surprise.

Your and Dammits sound like great ideas.
Sort out the cladding on that carbunckle in Woolwich and I quite like it
