One of my friends suggested why don't you put together a playlist of japanese pop songs. I said that would be great. I could have a medium-sized Bluetooth speaker on my rucksack, it'd be unobtrusive, just a gentle music playing in the background. Would anyone like to suggest a song to be put in the playlist, modern or old japanese pop.

You could create a collaborative playlist on spotify and get everyone to drop songs into it.

I think you should play it off a cassette tape. Or a minidisc. Or other obselete japanese curiosity. iRiver?
