I have a 2009 MacBook but it's a bit... fucked. Cracked screen, knackered keyboard, old software, low compatibility, full up. So I was thinking to replace it with a new MacBook Pro, probably 15", definitely Retina display.
The base model has a 2.2GHz processor and 256gb flash storage. I'd probably up the former to 2.5 for £80 and I thought about doubling the flash storage, even though it's £240 extra.
Which begs the question, do I go for the top drawer one at £2000, as it has both of these upgrades as standard PLUS a dedicated graphics thing? It's overkill at the moment, but I'd like to think I'll get 7-10 years out of it.
I use AutoCAD, Vectorworks, Sketchup, Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign all the time, plus I'm getting into Revit and I'd like to get into sophisticated rendering as I start to do more private work, designing buildings for people and stuff. Plus I need all the usual bullshit to allow me to function in 2015, such as a web browser, electronic mail and a calendar. shit's getting real and I need to get busy. It'll still have a special folder for pictures of bikes and shoes though.
I could make do with the base model but is it a false economy? In for a penny etc...
I thought about it but I really need to be mobile, party for making presentations etc. The desktops are better value and beautiful but routed to a desk enough at work.
