So I've not done Facebook before, I'm anti-social person in general, but decided I ought to for work. I now have some likes. Why do I need them? Is there a prize or something?

Useless piece of crap, full of needy knobs who should get out more... I've just gone back on it and I fucking hate it...
It's gonna be the easiest way to keep in touch with people once I emigrate... I'd fuck it off permanently otherwise...

If people will only talk to you through FB, are they worth talking to?
-
• #405
Deep.

If it wasn't for the fact that some of my younger friends only communicate trough Facebook and that some distant acquaintances will be lost without it I would not use it.

If it wasn't for the fact that all my friends have telephones and I use mine to stay in touch with them and other people I care about... I'd totally throw mine in the canal.

So you're all on Facebook?
Like my page.
I'm not sure why, but Like it.

I've got two FB friends that I want to throttle 99% of the time, lovely people IRL but massively needy like-whores online...
It drives me nuts...

Just had a bit of an unsubscribe jag, that's much better...
Weird thing I find with FB is that it throws up total randoms into your live feed but somehow completely ignores your best mates... There have been a few occasions where people I care about have gotten into a bit of bother and I've been none the wiser, this sucks...

For the web version I'd suggest the FB Purity add-in for chrome/firefox.
Let's you manage your news feed to see what you want rather than what facebook thinks you want.

@skydancer
you could try this if you worried about android permissions:
Tinfoil for Facebook
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.danvelazco.fbwrapper&hl=en"a sandbox for Facebook's mobile site in order to protect your privacy and to avoid the ability others to track your browsing history."

I don't really understand the gripes about FB.
It's just a tool and it's as good or as bad as you make it. You start off with a blank profile and anything or anyone you add is who or what makes it a good or bad experience.

How do you know this hasn't been developed by the government in order to spy on you?

Cheers. Will check out though it probably too late :)

Twitter is still fucking rubbish though....

So thinking of leaving facebook. Seems inane and getting bored. Slight concern about missing social stuff, events and things.
Anyone got any advice, or experience keeping in touch with things without FB?

Well I got locked out a while ago because of their Real Name Policy. It's a bit fucked because it was how I kept up with friends and family in Oz and some fuckers here but fuck them I'm not going back. Email will do.

That name just has to be made up, but Wikipedia lists it as his real name.

Hilariballs
Britain First have been banned from Facearse
Cue inevitable outrage and requests for donations from their sheeple to assist with 'legal fees' to fight Facebook in the courts

I just had an email from 'security@facebookmail.com' saying my Facebook account had been re activated and to log in if it wasn't me (it wasn't) I deleted it 7 years ago. Surely this is a scam as there would be nothing to re activate now?
I've googled the email address and it seems legit.
Its good to get things in perspective @TW #notsarcastic š
