I've seen them about for a few years, but never noticed they swept upwards as well, until those photos.

All look pretty good I guess.

The more I brake on rims (Tektro long drop, swisstop pads, VO rims, well set up) the more I want discs .. esp in cold.

"What, me mate? Nah, I wasn't doing anything.

No matter how good the rims brakes are, it's still a compromise solution.
Had the worse commute ever last Saturday facing a headwind of sleet, the hydraulic make it so much easier to squeeze with such little effort I can barely provide.
Rims = summer bike
Disc = all season. -

Are they're making a derailleur long enough for a big range cassette?

Since having the dew+ as my everyday bike I'm never going back to rim brakes. It's been a winter commuter in the shittiest Oslo conditions, fully loaded summer tourer to Sweden bombing steep declines, towing trailers with mobile workshops for the bike kitchen and all the pub bike abuse that I can give it and I've yet to have that oh shit I need more braking power feeling that I'd have with v brakes on my pompino AND the rims don't wear out.

agreed
^ If it weren't for rim wear, i'd be tempted to say that what i don't have i don't miss.

And brake pads wear too, I used to run through 3 rim pads in one winters, but a single disc pads for a whole year.

My very functional Cross Check is going to be for sale shortly, thought I'd put a heads up here before I advertise it properly.

They work well, BB7 are great, if you got the good batch that is, but that's not really a problem.
1" threaded set-up with disc brake however, doesn't sound like a good combination, the amount of flex must've been something.
Riser drops?
Not sure about them...
