  • Back in August 2013, we did a promotion with Pact Coffee whereby for £1 you could try out their coffee subscription service: https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/234053/

That was wildly successful, somewhere between 70-80% of those that tried it stuck with it and are still members.

Pact loved this, and I was glad too as it's good to do partnerships that forumengers love. Now we're here, early 2015 and I met with the Pact founder for a beer (finally, after all this time), and he tells me that he's got this new promotion that he's been trying, and I say how much I'd love to offer it to you guys but only if existing Pact members on LFGSS could also benefit somehow... so here's the deal:

Pact Coffee are a coffee subscription service, you pay per packet of coffee and they deliver it straight through your letter box on a regular schedule. You can vary the coffee you have, take their recommendations or stick with a regular espresso bean. You can pause the subscription at any time, and you can cancel it at any time. It's not a commitment, stick with it if you love it or not if it's not for you.

If you are not yet a member of Pact Coffee then you have two choices:

    1. £1 for your first bag to give it a try. (code lfgss)
    2. Full price for the starter bag but a free Hario V60 and filters to help you get a great brew. (code lfgssv60

If you are an existing member of Pact Coffee:

    • You can get the Hario V60 for £5 (see the instructions on the promo page in the next link, option 3).

The page for the promotion is here: http://journal.pactcoffee.com/london-cyclists

For the V60 offer this is what you're going to get:

    That pack is:

    • Hario V60 02 (a 2-cup dripper)
    • 40 filters
    • scoop
    • brew guide
    • biscuits
    • Pact coffee

Hopefully you will all love this as much as the original promotion. I'm already signed up, coffee for the office... so I'm going for the deal on the V60.

  • Nice one David! Good call on deal for existing members. :)

  • This is great, definitely signing up! Cheers Velocio

  • Cheers for getting something for existing members too!

  • Win.

  • Buy this! My.buddy is the head of coffee at pact, he buys excellent green bean.

  • Just signed up! Cheers.

  • Just FYI, I misread David's email - so where I thought it meant we could order a £1 bag even if already signed up ["...and if you already have coffee equipment then you can still get a starter bag of coffee without the V60 for £1."] that is only for new registrations.

I'm probably the only eejit to think that though!

  • Thanks so much for getting this set up with us David - we're all looking forward to meeting a few more LFGSS peeps! I just wanted to say hi to those of you giving us a try for the first time, answer any questions you have and take suggestions for how we could improve.

Very happy to do any of the above in this thread, or email stephen@pactcoffee.com if you'd like a little more privacy :)

P.S. For those of you who joined Pact during the last promotion, I can't recommend getting a V60 enough. At £5 we're not making a profit (I think they're £10 or so when they come up on Amazon) and they make an amazing, clean cup of coffee in seconds.

  • Thanks for the endorsement Matisse! How are you doing? Lots of good fresh coffee available now and on the way!

  • Thank you both, signed up yesterday. Looking forward to my coffee now :-)

  • as soon as my kit arrives, I'll try to provide feedback for sure.

do you only provide one-estate coffee? or are you planning on making your own / our own custom blends?

  • do you only provide one-estate coffee? or are you planning on making your own / our own custom blends?

Great question! Nearly all our coffees are single estate rather than blends. They're the best green beans on the planet so blending would be a bit of an insult to the producers, and would hide some of the unique nuances of each bean. We'll leave that kind of carry on to the commodity coffees than line supermarket shelves.

The only exception to this rule is the espresso blend (we also offer single-estate espressos for those who want something a little more exotic!) Here we blend two of our single-estate beans and roast slightly darker as this is the best way to achieve the right balance of acidity, sweetness etc.

  • Makes sense, albeit some combination of beans do enhance each other rather than the other way around :)

Well, I'll see how it goes and I might go ahead and order beans and blend them myself :)

Thanks for you quick response, looking forward to the coffee that's supposed to be travelling in the mail network right now!

  • Last few bags have been sensational. Thanks @Velocio for the existing customer's perk

  • First bag arrived today... Will have one in the morning but from the smell of the beans, so far so good.

  • I'm impressed! Coffee was great this morning. Although I totally mis-judged the bag-a-week thing seeing as there's two of us. Might have to up-the quantity.

  • Third week in to this. Its really good. Also, the quantity they send is perfect for making two aeropress a morning and a new coffee arrives just as we're running out.

  • Before I saw this thread a friend recommended Pact. I signed up, got first bag for £1, found the house taste didn't match my preferences and cancelled. It may be unfair to judge based on one bag - if that's how they feel, they could provide two or three small taster bags for the 'first bag' deal instead to show off the range, or just target potential customers who aren't ungrateful dicks like me.

I have to give credit to them for quick delivery and making it easy to cancel. Other subscription thingies often make you call up. Really is a no-risk trial and they should be commended for the way they operate.

  • Well it is indeed unfair to judge from one bag.

As you said service is great (as it has always been), selection of coffee is good, then it's just a matter of finding the right coffee for your palate.
A "starter kit" with few bags of different coffees would be nice indeed.

  • I've had two bags in as many weeks that didn't really taste of a lot - I've subsequently cancelled my subscription

  • My last bag hasn't arrived. Strangely I can't seem to find anything about missing deliveries in the FAQ so have e-mailed. I thought it would be a common query/problem.

  • This month's blend was delivered by bike.
    Most impressed!

  • Tried the coffee using the discount provided. I'm really not a fan. Instead, I buy my coffee from Allpress, in Shoreditch. Same price (£26/kg) and I much prefer it.
