  • Originally from South East London and now living in the Scottish Highland for the last 13 years. My father raced fixed gear in the 50's and 60's I wanted to know what it was like so I built my first fixie about 7 years ago which I still ride as my winter bike.

  • Hey, new to the forum, clément 22 from france
    cheers

  • First post :)

Downhill racer finally getting around to trying fixed, but will most likely be more single speedy. Not in London but daytrips are doable and been eyeing up the rental fleet over taking something on the train, that and no London spec locks as bike crime is low in my areas.
Mostly use a 853 Superfly Styler deluxe for racing, bit of a surly fan with a Karate Monkey (raced that too) but knocking some old Raleighs into shape for fixed/ss fun, clapped out Tempest beater (raced that as well) and a Record sprint thats several sizes too big (too big to race off road)

Been off the bikes for a while and need to get my legs back in condition, going fixed seems a fun way to get fitter again.

  • Hi all,

Been lurking around here for about 6 months, thoroughly enjoying the commuting and bad cyclist threads. Figured it was about time I got involved.

Moved to London last year for work. Started cycle commuting as an alternative to losing the will to live on the northern line every morning.

Used to own a heavy-as-fuck entry-level cyclocross bike, which was clunky and poorly maintained. In November I bought a Genesis Flyer and have never looked back. Not sure why I ever needed gears in the first place.

Currently riding with a freewheel, but would describe myself as fixie-curious.

    See you on the CS7,

    Sid

  • Been lurking for a while, nice site. Have dallied with bikes for a long time. Don't know much about them and I ride like I'm in last of the summer wine.

    Oh yesh I ride ss

  • Hey.
Can someone put down small list of best track hubs for FGFS?

  • Hi all, Amaury, 21 from Paris!
Riding fixed since the end of 2013.

Here are my two current bike and my kg 233P that I sold almost a year ago:

  • Hello everyone!

    New around here.

I have been riding a Peugeot UO8 ('73) for the last 3 years and after realizing I never use the gears since I moved to London, I want to do the jump to a single speed or fixed. I don't want to change the Peugeot, named Nadia, since all parts are the original except the brake levers.

Anybody has a recommendation on shops with second hand bikes where I can scavenge a good frame for a new build? Also checking the classifieds here.

  • Hello! I have been riding SS for about a year and fallen in love with it. Been lurking here for a while in a mission to expand my knowledge and prepare to build something a little faster.

Currently riding a heavy raleigh 3-speed I bought with a busted Sturmey Archer hub and so converted to single speed.

  • Hello @Juicy8 :)

  • Hi all. Another long time lurker here. Live in South London and just added a Bianchi Pista to my fleet of bikes. Rode fixed for a bit when I got back into riding a couple of years ago and planning on going back to it, although I quite like my Ultegra equipped carbon bike as well!

Cycled to Paris last month which is the only long distance Iv ever done..no training...that was a shock but made me wanna ride even more. My bikes nowt special but she works, for now... Hit me up if anyone wants to ride! Live North, work East.

  • Welcome @J.B and @Leila-K!

  • Hello,

    I am new here.

    Ta.

  • Hi all

Just obtained my first fixed gear/single speed bike two weeks ago
A polo and bike Williamsburg imported direct from Madrid.

Currently riding a flip flop hub Klickstar i think its called.

Newbie to all this but hope to learn a lot from this site and make some new friends

  • Long time lurker, new poster. Lfgss has been invaluable in helping me satisfy my bike building/obsession so thought I should say hello!

  • I'm new to the SS world. Been lurking on here for a while but recently bought a Kona Paddywagon frame from forummer with stuck seatpost and BB.
I got it sorted quicker than I expected so have pushed it into service, using a flop/flop so I'm still experimenting/testing it out at present.
Today my first ride into work on it, a smidge under nine miles and I'm very pleased with the Kona and SS.
I still need to tweak the bars, brakes and luggage facilities.
I had an issue where my pannier flapped up into my spokes this morning but no harm done.
I've got it setup with a 48*18 on 700 * 23mm tyres but might want to drop down to 17 or even 16 at the back.
Freewheel is Shimano Mx30 I think. Are these OK?

  • Hi guys, great site, thanks for having me!

  • hey guys, sorry to hijack this thread. I am currently trying to develop a documentary about London's cycle couriers. If anyone on this site is a courier and is interested in initially having a chat over beer/coffee then please get in touch

For the record I am a keen cyclist and this film if commissioned will get funding (as in it's not just me with a gopro and DSLR!)

    Thanks!

  • Hi
1st post on here, Been lurking for a few weeks.
Just built my first SS, FBM Sword. Built to ride to work only 1.5 miles, So nothing like some of the commute mileages I've seen on here. Only ridden to work for the last 2 days, But got to say the condition of the roads is shocking and I thought my car was invisible sometimes, But this morning I must have been wearing Harry Potter's cloak. Rolling down a hill, Guy in a van abit up the road pulls out, I have to start slowing down because he is accelerating slowly, Then he stops leaving me nowhere to go but down the inside, Passenger door opens, Luckily there was enough room to go past.
    Stay safe out there.
P.S. where's the best place to post pics of my build for ridicule
