BC is only any use for the free insurance
Or you could view it as some very affordable insurance for when you commute. It's an absolute no-brainer from that perspective. You may be a great rider, but that's not going to stop a careless driver hitting you... the insurance is worth every penny of the BC membership.
And to be clear: I don't get any money from BC, and you can join LFGSS CC get the jersey and take part in any events run by LFGSS CC without being a BC member. It's just that the insurance is actually a big deal, to dismiss the BC membership for such a benefit seems pretty silly.

Yeah, the funding of the national team, the organisation of road racing, track racing, BMX racing, cross racing and associated administration, and representing UK cyclists to the government and other bodies is a complete waste of time.

BC is only any use for the free insurance, often you get free entry or cheap tickets to Velodrome events at Manchester and over the country run by the BC, other than that; nowt much doing.
