    I've always though fluoro orange was much punchier in daylight than yellow, especially at distance and even more so against a field of oilseed rape.

    The cyclist I collided with (I was driving) at night a few weeks ago was wearing a fluoro yellow jacket but had no lights. There was street lighting but he crossed my path so was not illuminated by my lights, so no benefit from the reflective strips, as he approached and crossed my path from the right.

    Reflective strip doesn't work if is offset from a line extended between driver's eyes and driver's lights.

    At night I think active illumination on your bod and bike is the best approach - relying on reflection can be a recipe for disaster. But still risky - don't assume you will be seen - the old mutual eye contact thing at junctions is still a good plan I recon, where possible.
