  • delicious pearoast.

  • A few friends and I will be going on a culinary tour/city-break to Bologna, Parma, and Modena. Anyone know of any gems in those locations?

  • oh wow...keep us posted...

  • I was in Bologna/Modena/Parma last year :) but didn't eat in Parma

    Bologna: Alpappagallo &

    All Osteria Bottega

& Restaurant Diana & La Sorbetteria Castiglione

Modena: Osteria Francesscana & Ristorante Zelmira & La Bicicletta - Caffè & Salumi & Gelateria K2

  • La Sorbetteria Castiglione - is the best Ice Cream ever

And Osteria Francesscana was bloody awesome

  • As creepy and voyeuristic as it sounds, I have noticed that you and I have similar tastes in a few things across several threads on here. You're the Meermin fan, right? Many thanks for the recommendations...

  • Yeah that's me. No worries you can watch from behind the two-way mirror anytime you like.

Theres also Osteria Francesscana's other restaurant in Modena which is really good and cheap.

The market in Modena is really worth a visit, one of the nicest I've been to, wake up early and grab some brilliant grub

  • My favourite way to pass the time..

Will try Francesscana's sister restaurant and report back. Is the Modena market a similar vibe to La Boqueria? In the sense of having food spots amongst market stalls, rather than the throng of mouth breathers that make it so busy.

  • It's much nicer vibe than La Boqueria, Modena seems a pretty affluent/chilled area. Theres a few cake shops but don't remember any cafes or anything - they have mozzarella balls the size of melons but pillowy soft.

The sister restaurant have a buffet which is seriously good - all you can eat

  • One thing I miss right now from Colombia, is the exquiste food. especially Cazuela de Mariscos a seafood stew with Lobster from Cartagena.

problems posting pics, i'll try later

  • 9 hour braised pork belly with butter bean, chorizo and San Marzano tomato stew.

  • did a nice pork in cider stew last week along the lines of this recipe

    http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/2534644/slowbraised-pork-shoulder-with-cider-and-parsnips

i have the other half of the pork shoulder fried off with inion on the stove .... what does anyone suggest for the rest of the ingredients

a nice stew would be perfect but any other ideas ?

  • I've heard your wife likes pork in cider.

Sorry - I can't help doing that joke. Sorry of your wife is dead or a Muslim.

Has anybody tried Smokin Aces BBQ on Chapel Market? Excellent food. I had the Boss Hog for lunch. Pork shoulder, belly and cheek with coleslaw and pickles. Easy to feel ripped off with street food in London but this was a lot of meat for £4.50. He's a bit tucked out of the way but worth going to find.

  • chadders, it's his mum, not his wife, get it right...

  • Short rib, rubbed with mustard powder, paprik and sumac, roasted for 12 hours over red wine and chipotle.

With truffle mash, cavolo nero and fennel seeds, and a sauce from the red wine reduced with chocolate.
