Are those Hubs the "MrRide" 288g 24/20h jobbies off ebay? Laced to Kinlin 279's with sapim lasers? I'd like to know how they ride as I am going to build exact same set for myself, not got the rims yet though.

Almost, except they're 24/28 as they're 'winter / training' wheels. I'll report back, but they look great and spin amazingly.

spin amazingly.
What does this mean?

My wheels won't explode then?
At least, not because of heads in/out :)No. If they're so marginal on strength that that's going to be the difference between exploding and not exploding, they're going to explode anyway.

Another budget project - wasn't sure if the fit was going to work, a lot of fiddling with bar, levers and saddle angle, but now it feels really nice for commuting, kojaks roll and grip really good on tarmac and the tire size provides a smooth ride, STX cantilevers work amazingly as well. For now the drivetrain is a real mess, but it works. The plan is to ride it singlespeeded in winter (with the other wheelset, which has knobby tires on) and to go fully geared in summer with 6400 shifters and mechs pared to a nice 6600 crankset. At some point it will also get full mudguards and a rack.

Shy to post it there unfinished and with the "skinny" kojaks :)

Hubs finally arrived on Monday (after much to-ing and fro-ing with the aliexpress seller) so 2 speedy wheelbuilds later and this guy is on the road. Was too scared to cut down the steerer fully so left enough wiggle room that I can get the fit 'dialled in'. I'm trying to keep the bar drop small to make off road easier, but sooo many spacers...
Pretty happy with it. HY RD are a dream, sick endos.

When I know what I need fit wise I may go down the Thomson route, but for now is there a way of getting the carbon post back to glossy? Lacquer?
-
• #99287
Theres clearcoat in spray cans. Will get the job done well.

Simple as that then? I suppose it doesn't need to be that hard wearing. Do I need to back it off a bit with fine grit first, or will the 'wetness' of the clearcoat make it dark? Should really just buy a new post. Seems stupid to spend £1200 on a build but not want to spend another £30 on a decent post...
Likewise for the stem.

Yeah it will get much darker with clear. Id sand abit first to get it even. More or less it will look like it does when theres water on the surface so you can try that first.

Cheers. That'll be fine then!

I know tritoncycles sells Surly CCs but are there any other online stockists that do? UK or EU.
Hard to find buggers. -

This should be arriving tomorrow...
Build suggestions welcome. I'm thinking it needs new paint and carbon forks.

3 thin spray coats, 2 hours apart.

are these 3d24 track ? i would be interested in how your chainline fits. exact measurement and additional info would be ace.
i had huge issues with chain line accuracy and the q-factor was enormous compared to the 2012 model. -

you might have trouble installing tubulars on a clincher rim :)
I got a Ribble CX frame (has rack mounts etc as well) for £100 and pretty happy with it. I bought a rubbish CSN carbon fork though and would go with a Kinesis pure CX if I was buying again.
