Hmm, never had a random death problem, and have had a few of the Ricohs. Anyway, the pouch I use is waterproof and padded. Worked fine on LEJOG, and I'm pretty sure I sweated a bit on that ride.

I use a semi-rigid phone case with a carabiner to transport my GR.

Further to all that chat about which X100 I should buy, to help fund that I'm punting all my old DSLR gear.

SUPER old body, but maybe some filters and so will be of interest :)

I love my GR.

Its tough, fits in a pocket and makes me want to get creative. Great for landscapes, bit wide for some shots but you can always crop it. Ricoh leather case isn't great though.

So, just found out that one of my bike polo pics has been used in the Ryan Air flight magazine, without permission, payment, or as far as I know, credit. @photoben, got any advice on how to word my e-mail to them?

Now standard rates would be £80 as listed here, but that's if they are playing by the rules. I believe you've sold your polo images before, so whatever figure that was, plus damages, is how much to ask for.

Print out all evidence. Print out an invoice. Dress up smart and go pay them a visit here:

Ask for the picture editor. Explain the situation, and ask how this has happened. I've been on both sides of this conversation, so be calm as it may not be his fault. Have invoice ready, though they might make you an offer.

Afterwards write down everything that was said. If you have to take it to small claims court you want as much evidence in your favour.

I don't have much free time at the moment to visit anyone; would a phone call be likely to work?
All issues of the magazine are available as flip-throughs' on line so evidence isn't hard to come by.

Yeah call them up if you can't go in. Actually (though this is dependant on their deadlines), Thursday after lunch is the best time to ask for something. So do it tomorrow if you can.

Given its Ryanair, can you chuck on £100 for having to print their invoice out for them?

If you haven't phoned them up yet, and idea might be to draft them an email with all the links/screengrabs, then when you are speaking to the right person, get their email address straight away and fire it over to them, so they can look at it as you are talking.

New 5D(s?) sounds like a monster. Supposedly 50ish mp... Hopefully it can down sample raws for those that only need 10 of those 50.

Hmm. I reckon there will be another model announced - sounds like that is for the studio/fashion photographers.

Maybe they'll have two 5D lines like they did with the old 1 series: a 5DIV and a 5Ds. Makes sense and its not without precedent.

Otherwise it'll be a repeat of Nikon - wait ages for an update on the 700, get the 800 - arrrgh! too much update! run away! Wait another couple of years of whinging before the 750 comes out.

Just spoken to the editor of the Ryan Air mag. He was very reasonable and apologetic and is looking in to it. He did say that their 'usual rate' will be paid.

So, expect an invoice from them :)

These things happen - could be that a journo just took it from flickr thinking it was fine. I've had that happen a few times and had to educate the office about using the creative commons search function.

The picture editor just got back to me - they're offering £50, (their 'usual reproduction fee') which I will accept. It's not worth the bother to haggle over it.
Seems like a mix up with the writer providing images.
