  • Boardman frame in our new heated booth. All paint-work is heat treated for extra durability and quicker curing times.

  • Some 'after' pictures of the carbon frame at the top of the page. Client is needing this frame back ASAP so not sure I'm going to have a chance to get some smart pictures of it (it's a anniversary gift)

It came prepped for paint but we spent an extra hour to get it 100%. All paint is custom mixed, this bike has no decals, everything is painted on. The white is a custom mixed super metallic so when the light hits it gives a real pop. Frame heat cured for 6 hours so this has cut the cure time by 80%.

Also some close-ups of the Boardman frame we stripped of original lacquer and sprayed ceramic lacquer. All waxed and polished before going back to client.

I don't have any before pictures but it had a lot of chips, scratches and generally looked very used.

  • You're missing a comma in 5,000,000 and isn't that time going to be out of date the second it passes 5 million? Seems like an odd request...

  • Hi, mailed you guys about a spray, no one has got back to me yet.

    Andy

  • We noticed this as soon as it went on, numbering looks slightly different to what it does in the pictures (they're a few days old)

  • Andy,

how did you email us? Apologies if you haven't had a response, we aim to respond in 12 hours.

If you could email me personally I can assist you.

*edit, I can see the email has came through this forum, responding now

  • 5,000,000

    I make it 5,000,000,000. :)

  • There's only one problem with your paint jobs, James, which is that nobody in their right mind could possibly want to actually ride the bikes. The idea of little flints pinging against such perfection or mud and rain on it can only fill one with horror. :)

  • they'll look good in the rain:

lines starting with a 'greater than' denote quoted text

  • Thanks for the kind words!

All paintwork we do receives a machine polish and wax with a really long lasting wax so they can take anything winter has to throw at it.

The key to strong paintwork is to put as little paint on as you can, thinner the better. That's why we spend so much time prepping the frames instead of just throwing a couple of coats of primer at it.

  • Silly question - can you 'paint on' a 3k carbon effect weave?!

*I appreciate this is a whole world of wtf (who want's to go back to 3k weave??)

  • Funny you should say that...

later this week we'll be offering hydrographics. So yes, we can do carbon effect.

  • The finished product..

please excuse the poor quality of pictures.

Up next is a personal project. My Gazelle Champion Mondial which is going TVM colours; yellow, black, blue, red white.

  • I'm quite confused by the number of seconds on the blue frame.

The first picture says '5000, 000, 000s' which is missing a comma and a very long time and the second (finished picture) shows '500,000,000s' and is a much more realistic number but doesn't come out in years as a round number so seems an odd choice for an anniversary!

I know it's what the customer asked for but in years/days/minutes/seconds it's a very odd number.

The paint does look fantastic though!

  • It look like someone had to go back and make a new decal. The letter sizing has also shrunk.

  • @JamesNQ - how much was that boardman relacquer?

  • Simple mistake with the decal, problem was rectified and put right. We also changed the sizing a little.

@6pt we charged £100 for the frame, it's got ceramic lacquer.

  • I thought it was painted on, not a decal?

  • It is painted on, we use decals as a stencil so whatever the mistake was with the decal was in the paint.

  • "All paint is custom mixed, this bike has no decals, everything is painted on." Strange... I smell bullshit.

  • Im so confused why people are getting so into this. if the customer was happy does it matter?

  • Time for that hot pink TT bike I always wanted...

  • Why does it matter? Because they are on here trying to sell paint jobs and as such can be scrutinised accordingly.
