Out of curiosity, how to rollers stack up against TTs in terms of noise?
-
• #829
Probably slightly quieter if you use a foam mat.
My bearings are a bit shot though. So mines kinda noisey.

Have got a crono elite wireless without the wireless bit, so was thinking of either using it for sprints or longer distance to get the cadence right. Or watch it sit in the corner of the room till I got bored with it.

Presume posted but if not...

I had an invite to an interesting event. A turbo trainer sportive, in a sweaty tent, against a bunch of prison inmates.
Part of me quite fancies it. Catching a plane, and paying for a night in a hotel to cycle indoors though >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I wonder how they stop people cheating?
-
• #835
Laurens Ten Dam is their brand ambassador and if you cheat he comes round and feasts on your carcass.

• #836
How is that different/better than trainerroad?
-
• #837
It's real-time competition against other people on trainers, rather than a Johnny No-Mates turbo session against a graph.
-
• #838
I meant the first one, not Zwift. Which looks like Knightmare on bikes. Or some other poorly remembered show with Dominik Diamond on it.

• #839
He wouldn't be able to finish the job and if he got close it would ruin his career.
-
• #840
I've used neither so I don't know. Can you race other people in trainerroad?
-
• #841
Oh, I've not used that either.
-
• #842
turbotraininguk looks like uk version of trainerroad.

So I am another person looking at buying a turbo trainer with a £100-150 budget. Mainly fixed gear use and some geared.
From what I've read it seems a fluid based trainer would be no good/boring for a fixed gear as I wouldn't be able to adjust the resistance. Is this correct?
-
• #845
I've trained with a singlespeed setup on a fluid trainer before and while it was ok, the lack of variety in cadence ( at a set power level ) was a bit limiting, so I switched back to a geared bike. So yeah, the variable resistance trainers sound better suited to bikes with one gear.
The Elite trainers have a good rep in your price bracket and they also have a decent range of resistance settings, so you can spin, or grind to your heart's content.
Something like this Elite Novo Force perhaps?

Thanks for the advice. I did already have a look at a few in the Elite range.
I found this today..
£145 including free delivery, seems like a cracking deal?
1.6-kg steel flywheel and 10 speed resistance, plus the extras (floor mat, dvd, front wheel block).

• #847
That does look like a good deal. The various accessories ( mat, sweat catcher, riser block ) are all useful too and as discussed on a previous page, having a larger flywheel gives the trainer a more realistic road feel.

I have my fixed gear on a set resistance curve trainer. Its brutal.
Warm up/cool Down/recovery = 60 rpm cadence. The lactic laughs at me.
Steady state = 80 rpm cadence. Not terrible. But gets boring quick.
Big effort interval = 100 rpm. Which kinda Works. But my HR goes skyward quickly.

Has anyone used a Tacx trainer? I think I might go for the TACX Blue Motion Pro Pack.

^^
My turbo Wheel has a 48mm deep carbon rim (for teh Aeros). I considered filling it With Silicone (cuz I have a full sealant gun in the workroom).
But it has internal nipples. So maybe not.
