• According to the vast majority of wheelbuilders heads in or heads out, whether on leading spokes on disc-braked wheels or trailing spokes on rear wheels, makes no difference at all and is a matter of personal preference. The sole exception is the rear drive-side where for clearance issues it's best to have trailing spokes heads out. Here's what Sheldon Brown has to say on the subject.
