Alarmed disc lock as an alternative?
Has anyone had experience with Railsavers?http://www.railsavers.com/page.aspx?pid=4
After doing the sums it's cheaper than riding down to Italy (fuel, BnB, food, tolls, square tyre etc) and it'll allow more time to declutter the bike and rag it through the mountains.
