Has anyone here ridden a wheel until the braking surface was so worn it failed? I'd like to know what happens exactly. Pressure from the tyre bead blow the braking surface apart? Is it a sudden and catastrophic failure?
I was on a trip to Italy once and one of my fellow riders had his rim fail whilst descending the Stelvio. Luckily he managed to keep the bike upright.
Bet he needed new pants though.
