I had bont a2's for about 18 months and loved them, they fit superbly and were super stiff. I retired them in June and picked up a pair of bont riots which are complete w4nk in comparison, I almost prefer to ride my road bike with my old bontrager cx shoes!
As for pedals, I use r540's on my track bike and have never managed to pull my shoe out, though admittedly I wouldn't be pushing out that much peak power.
Next on my shopping list are a pair of nicer road shoes again, may just go with a2's again, or track vaypors, and a pair of straps.
