This is very late, but the end bit aim for Richmond park instead of the a3! Leave Richmond park by ham gate and follow the road more or less straight it'll take you to teddington lock bridge, nicer and more direct than a3 to kingston.
I'd also head over kew bridge... But this is probably 2 months late so I'll stop there!
