  • Oh, and BTW, the Italian Gasparri(the filth) from Forza Italia that i was speaking a few days ago is not the same person next to the Pope.

  • Good luck with the translation.

I feel that way about all your posts.

  • then you have a really good reason to vote tory, ukip or the pub landlord.

  • I fucking hate it when people slag off Campagnolo... Am I on the same page?

  • i was in new york last night changing flights and caught a bit of CNN whilst at jfk , sounds like the USA is under attack - rolling news over 2 hours the topics were 100% isis /al queda / islam fear stories . i heard one of the expert commentators describe the paris supermarket killer as being of "african american descent"

  • However, I think it'd be nice if everyone's dignity was respected.

Why? Why should stupid, ignorant and unpleasant people be treated with dignity rather than the scorn and approbation they deserve? Why should stupid, vicious and intolerant superstitions be treated any differently?

I respect the right of every person to proclaim their faith in their magical sky wizard of choice, and their right to pronounce that their magic book of choice is unadulterated truth and wisdom. However, I also reserve the right to heap scorn upon them for their credulity, and if they don't like it then too fucking bad.

  • Go for it. My plan is to avoid mocking the beliefs of hundreds of millions of people, the majority of which are perfectly awesome duders. But if you want to pile scorn on to them because a minority are evil fuckers, as the pope says, it's your fundamental human right.

  • ^ such a dick. Sorry.

Whether a minority of any particular grouping of sky wizard worshippers are evil fuckers or not is irrelevant. Even if every follower of a particular deity was in fact a perfectly awesome duder, I don't see why I should confer dignity and respect upon a belief system which I consider inherently risible.

If someone claims the Earth is flat, I will mock them and point out they are wrong. If someone claims the moon landings were faked, I will mock them vigorously. The same goes for astrology, homeopathy and clairvoyance. I fail to see why religion should be any different.

Perhaps the difference is this - I agree that people deserve dignity and respect. I just don't think their beliefs necessarily do.

  • disapprobation

  • I totally agree... Except about the moon landings and aliens amongst us... To assume that you know better about these things is just as risable.

  • Er? Wut? Would be nice if everyone could just chill out for a bit.

  • I will mock them, I will mock them vigorously.

    With what aim?

  • dear pope francis. i think your religion is load of laughably meaningless horseshit repsonsible for the continued misery of millions.

    offended?

    boo fucking hoo.

    amidoinitrite?

  • You'll go blind if you do that

  • I think the point is worth remembering that we came up with ideas like freedom of speech to set some ground rules after several centuries of killing each other because we thought other people believed in god the wrong way.

    So -

    Believe what you want
Say what you want (without lying)
Nobody has the right to tell you what to think or say

If we respect those ground rules, then we might not all like each other but we won't go back to killing each other in droves.

We've lost sight of that a bit, I think.

  • Believe what you want
Say what you want (without lying)

  • To reward their stupidity and/or ignorance with the gift of humour. And because they probably won't get the joke.

  • But if they don't get the joke, you're not rewarding them. It has no effect on anything other than your own ego.

  • They get their reward in heaven, ego stroking is all us atheists get before our conciseness blinks out and all is irrelevant. Don't ruin it.

  • I'm rewarding them with the possibility of changing their mind. The alternative, other than confrontation, is silence. And if everyone treats ignorance and superstition with meek silence then ignorance and superstition wins.
