Go for it. My plan is to avoid mocking the beliefs of hundreds of millions of people, the majority of which are perfectly awesome duders. But if you want to pile scorn on to them because a minority are evil fuckers, as the pope says, it's your fundamental human right.
Whether a minority of any particular grouping of sky wizard worshippers are evil fuckers or not is irrelevant. Even if every follower of a particular deity was in fact a perfectly awesome duder, I don't see why I should confer dignity and respect upon a belief system which I consider inherently risible.
If someone claims the Earth is flat, I will mock them and point out they are wrong. If someone claims the moon landings were faked, I will mock them vigorously. The same goes for astrology, homeopathy and clairvoyance. I fail to see why religion should be any different.
Perhaps the difference is this - I agree that people deserve dignity and respect. I just don't think their beliefs necessarily do.
