  • To be quite honest, chainset is the least of your concern, as long you kept a small/small combo like Iain did.

Weight of cranks need to be measured with BB, tapered cranks may be lighter (500g easily, lightest I got is 480g with bolt and 44t) but the BB tend to be under 300g, whether the external cranksets are heavier (600-700g), the external BB weight under 100g.

  • Rotors were a little over 700g with bb and chainring if I remember correctly.

  • Just checked my set-up - 478g crankset with 257g BB (cheap shimano) = 735g, a little under the SRAM external BB crankset.

  • I've got Omniums at the minute, was considering perhaps shimano road cranks with either USE ring or an alternative... much weight to be shaved?

  • Shimano Ultegra compact crankset is 785g, not including the BB (according to spec).

Omnium is 825g, unsure of whether BB is included.

  • looks better than omnoms imo

  • 48t weight 221g.

    BB not included.

  • what about standard ultegra crankset?

Sounds like any difference will be negligable...

  • square taper and old cranks still remain the lightest.

Phil Wood AFAIK definitely weigh under 200g for their BB (147g for 113mm).

    480g + 147g = 625g (44t chainring).

  • Rotor would be the lightest if you chuck a 43t chainring on

    Didn't see Ed's ninja edit!

  • 563g crank arms only.

  • Sugino Gigas cog would be excellent for ww build too. I think they go up to 15t or 16t, but are easier to find as 14t.

  • Can anyone recommend a lightweight steel frame? I was going to approach condor...

I'm looking for the classic steel look and track geometry. Not a weight weenie, but looking to lighten up!

What about a Fuji Track Pro frame? It aint steel but looks pretty mean!

  • Build some lighter wheels instead, that'll make a nice difference.

  • Can’t find any photos on thread but was this your setup?

  • @TM @ChainBreaker

I think Iain's had longer crank arms...? This would suggest they were 177.5mm whereas the one above is 170mm

  • Link to the weight. Which post number? Its possible as it as 9 years ago we got it wrong. Also, where in that says its length? It would be interesting if it was because even back then, mine was ultra rare. Now days? Insane.

Fuck, I miss that bike. Scared the shit out of me everytime I rode it 😂

I loved this thread. The collaboration from everyone. The community spirit.

    I love this place.

  • the title of the facebook ad says 170mm, whereas if you look at your picture on the scales and zoom in it says 177.5mm
