i don't think PROVIZ make lights.

A driver broke the law, and the cyclist shouldn't have let him.

Advertisers make expansive claims shocker.
Next they'll be claiming that simply wearing a watch/fragrance/suit will get you a supermodel (or two).
-

Well, showing people presumably getting killed for not using their product is perhaps a bit strong.

• #6231
Helmet alert you are going to get hit by a volvo(and only a volvo)?
-
• #6232
You should ALWAYS wear a helmet.
-
• #6233
It will protect your head in the event that you have an accident, you see...

How is it going in Australialalalalaland, am assuming all cyclists are safe there what with everyone wearing helmets.

They recommend staying safe by wearing a flourescent vest, so LBC is keeping your children safe by giving these vests to schools across the country.
yeah... not sure that's gonna fit. actually, from now on - anyone pushing hi viz on the grounds of safety should be forced to cycle around E&C for an hour. 'Go on, fatty ferrari, you worthless, shit eating grinned, pile ridden, salad dodging, quin-chinned cunt, what are you scared of? you've got a magic yellow vest on! trot on now'
/old news.

Its killed the Melbourne cycle scheme is what its done. You have to buy a foam helmet for 5 bucks in 7-11 and then you can get a deposit back when you return it. They are shit.
-
• #6237
See, they are safe because they don't ride any more and cycling is so dangerous.
-
• #6238
I've heard that

Hi-viz vest vs cycle training: one is dirt cheap and carries free advertising; the other costs actual money and cannot be branded.

Last night I dropped my helmet down a flight of concrete stairs. New helmet time?
-
• #6245
A drop like that is hardly likely to compress the styrofoam (which is one way a helmet's effectiveness can be reduced.)
-
• #6246
Is there any truth to having to replace your helmet after so many years? I wear mine only on the weekends as my commute is a 500m walk to work and I think I've had it for 5> years now.
-
• #6247
some manufacturers recommend every couple years, one says opposite (met I think).
There's little evidence either way unless it's been left in the sun alot of the time iirc.
-
• #6248
Is there's any obvious dent? If not, ride till you die.

Prolonged UV exposure can weaken the bonds in the styrofoam so that it won't absorb as much energy in an impact. Quite how much UV gets through to the styrofoam is debatable.
My helmet is at least 15 years old, it only gets worn for events that mandate it (i.e. very few).

Depends on whether you believe sunlight degrades the shell and the inner has lost it's squashiness.
For work, I follow the "three years from manufacture/two years from first use" rule which is conservative, but a building site is far more hazardous place to be, than on a bike.
Personally, I would think that five years is long enough for a piece of equipment you expect to protect you, if for no other reason than to take advantage of the advances in materials and design.
why not just fit some decent lights?
