Not to derail what looks to be a CP thread, but Tubus Vega is £60 and Tortec Tour Ultralite is £20. They both have a stated load of 25kg and weigh within 100g of each other (Tortec is lighter). Any reason to pay 3x the price for the Tubus when it's just for commuting?

Ignore the above. Went Tortec.

tortec ftw. ok so they are sometimes tubus homage, but they do the job.

Kaffenback smallest is still too big.
You sure? it got a very slack seat tube on the smallest model, so reach is similar to the drawing, smaller than the smallest Straggler (R: 377mm S: 534mm)
-

she needs 365 to 370mm reach and 500 to 510mm stack.
Kaffenback 2 in small is 371mm reach and 520mm stack.

Cost vs usability.
Ignoring the 'road bike' category for the time being, I'm not dismissing 26" simply because it's been around for yonks and parts can be had for peanuts, even in the middle of nowhere. The argument for 27.5 is also much stronger when you go off road. Roll over all the things! For the road, does it really have as dramatic an effect? I very much doubt it in a blind test with someone who's bike is simply transport.
Building a a bike because you can isn't the same as building a bike you need. -

When it come to MTB, 650b (or 27.5 really) is now an idea choice for the smaller size of the 29ers, as it's in proportion to the frame size.

42cm 650b straggler is 498mm and 369mm bro http://surlybikes.com/bikes/straggler_650b/geometry

...okay, do you have a reason why I shouldn't choose 27.5"?
-
• #8692
Aside from cost? No. My argument was for 26" not against 27.5".

Yeah quite a lot of 700c OTP caliper brake choice, Trek Lexa, Specialized Dolce, Felt ZW etc. Mega toe overlap in most cases; conversion to 650b or 26" isnt as easy as with disc wheels and pricey. No way I am going to put her on anything less than 32mm tyres. An ideal thing would be a cheap OTP road bike with disc brakes either women specific or tiny. There are a couple like women specific Synapse disc but its pricey.
Also @edscoble her fit outcome was pretty opposite of mine; she is EXTREMELY flexible so anything above 500mm stack is going to need a more than 6 deg downward facing stem. One of her issue (slight wrist pain) was due the fact that her handlebars were too high.
Kaffenback smallest is still too big .. anything else? Disc is ideal for wheel size freedom.
Spyres are about £100 for a pair + 5800 shifters which are £115 .. plus cables; thats just £70 less than R685.
