Half decent tan-walled tubular?

Posted on
  • Hi all

Due to pick up a set of tubulars with the intention of running them on my commuting bike... Bold, but doable I figure. I have another pair of tubs on my nice and good conditions only bike with Vittoria Rally's, but I'm guessing that these wouldn't cut it for daily use in london...

So, what would people recommended? Must have tan sidewalls... For a quick search, Vittoria Corsa SC seem a good compromise, I did see that Schwalbe Milanos have been mentioned before, but seem discontinued.

    Any advice welcome!

    Steven

  • If you're set on commuting with tubs I'd go conti gatorskin or schwalbe durano. There's no tough tan wall commuting tubs out there afaik.
Corsa SC are fast race tyres, lovely but they won't last long commuting.

  • Conti Giro? if not then keep an eye on ebay, ive come across some bargains over the past year so im nicely stocked up for summer. csb...><

  • Thanks guys. Shame about the Corsas, they look great! Giros have the benefit of being super cheap, so I could always stock up... Will keep an eye on ebay too, thanks for heads up...

  • Corsas's are fantastic but man alive is that tyre thin. Why not see if you can find some Conti grand prix classics. Not exactly tan wall, more like a murky brown, but they look great and they're about as tough as 4seasons.

    Ah wait...crap. Tubs...

  • Giros plus a dose of stans no tubes goo!

  • Looks like giros get the forum vote... Just need to pick up the wheels and put in the wiggle order! Cheers all.

  • Agreed about the Vittoria Rally. I commuted on them last year, 'twas a pain in the a$$. Whilst super cheap and look great, winter sucks. Summer rides fine though.
