• Yeah you can tell he's got a larger fork cause of the excruciating clash between that step and the TT.
Thanks for the Intel; I was thinking of doing something like this in the summer but with a 24" front wheel to make it a lo pro. Thought it might look pretty cool and give me a chance to try my hand at some painting.

  • Are you asking me cause I have no idea, that's why I asked you.
Sounds fun learning to weld, plus must be very applicable to bikes. Good luck with that.

  • Ha mixed wires, apologies! I thought you knew and it was expensive ha :)

Would be nice but I just need some free time in order to do it...

24" front wheel version sounds like great fun, have both of you seen the fixed mountainbike conversion from a while back. Someone re-welded an old steel frame with track dropouts, put a smaller wheel on the front and a 700 (I think) on the rear. With chunky tyres it looked awesome

  • Ha, people say I always come across as sarcastic, didn't realise it followed through into text.

No, I haven't seen that conversion. Do you have the link?

  • This one. Rad

  • Yeah that does look rad and the geo still looks pretty normal.

  • That's the one, so much rad

  • While waiting for the wheels to finish the GT, my Koga Miyata Pro is almost done. Just need to connect the cables.

This is the frame. Miyata's FM-1 steel tubes, triple butted. I've had a lot of frames, but fell in love with this one at first sight. Superb quality.

  • Already had a shimano 105 (1050) 7-speed groupset in excellent condition and other parts that fit, except the wheelset. I don't want and don't need more than 7 gears. found some brand new Fulcrum 6.5 CEX (actually it's fulcrum 7) and got them for a nice price, got the spacer and installed the 7-speed cassette 12-28. I will run one chainring on the front, 42t, so it's a nice ratio.
Thomson, salsa, stripped flite, risers... It'll be a fun bike to ride around...

  • The Koga is rad - so much fun riding a set-up like that. I recently did similar with this:

Quite envious of the GT too. Top work!

  • @TRA Thanks! I was tempted by the Ron Cooper while it was for sale!!! Awesome, like it alot!!!

The GT should be done very soon, just waiting for the wheels...

  • Got the wheels. just a quick build to see how it looks.
I couldn't be happier with how it turned out. Looks great in flesh.
Also, bought Kenda slick tires. K-90, actually they are the same as k838. Awesome reviews, both dry and wet conditions and fairly good puncure protection. Size is 26x1.95, which keeps the BB high (29 cm). Wanted to go with Kenda kommuters, also super great reviews, 26x1.75. I'll see how it rides on these and maybe switch a bit later...

  • It's finished. Took it for a short spin around the block. Everything seems to be just right. I'll make some more photos in the daylight.

  • nicely done!
looks fun.. i want to sort out my fat tyre ride soon.

  • Thanks!

Went for a longer ride today. I really like how it feels, just perfect. Smooth and comfy. Current gear is 45x17.
Regret a bit not shaving the frame before the new paintjob. And welding the track ends.. But I will eventualy.
Next step, beating the shit out of it...
